The Republicans are going to win in 2022?

38 posts in this topic

This is a little thread for all of my fellow American forum users.

If Biden is already stuck with his 50/50 party split Senate, than how bad is it going to be when he inevitably loses the Congress in 2022 mid terms. Or will he?

Twill be a shitshow if Repubs take the House and Senate.

The MAGA lunacy continues.

Not necessarily, Biden is still the President and will veto their legislation.

Basically the Legislature would grind to a halt as no substantial Legislation is passed for two years, culminating in obstructionist Republicans trying to sell the country on Bad Faith portrayals of Biden as a do-nothing President for the remainder of his Term.

I could also foresee see another government shutdown over those two years for yet another asinine issue, and the Senate/House being unable to fulfill basic and routine duties (such as raising the debt ceiling) due to political brinksmanship, with the hope that they can pin all of this dysfunction on Biden when '24 rolls around.

Add then add a sprinkling of Republicans trying to claim credit for Biden's earlier accomplishments (that they unanimously voted against and demonized), just for good measure.

Why is Western Europe a lot more politically developed (stage green) compared to Murica when both share western values, same government model (kind of) and both are rich developed countries.

I am not from Murica so i never got it.

@Karmadhi Because the most extreme religious nutcases on the European continent emigrated to murika to breed.  Also angloamerican beliefs in the invisible hand.

If repubs win we will call that a dark day. And I got a bad feeling that would be the beginning of the end for america. We just gotta wait for all the conservative boomers holding power spots to die off.

The Republican Party is still the Orange Turd's personal Cult. Midterm elections are coming up at the end of 2022, and it's not at all certain whether Joe Biden's party will maintain the thin majorities they hold in the US House and Senate.

If the Democrats lose either the House or Senate, Joe Biden will effectively be blocked from passing any Legislation for the remainder of his Presidency.

Joe Biden's doing a reasonably good job and has high approval ratings among Democrats and Independents. But on the other hand Trumpism hasn't faded in popularity, so it's an open question as to how the next few years will play out in US Politics.

This sounds like a political crisis.

I don’t like the outlook for midterm elections. Even if everything between now and then is smooth sailing and Biden does as well as can be expected, the collective ego of conservatives will fight like hell because they’re already angry and hurt about losing once.

Do they still believe in democracy?

They demonize themselves. We just observe their foolish antics and scratch our heads.

The right has good ideas.

The left also has good ideas.

Deal with it.

I refuse to demonize any political party and take the good from both of them.

Most people don't demonize them because they aren't aware of all the stupid shit that they do and for a place that's aware of it I think we are doing pretty good.

Agreed. The overly judgmental demeanor here is one reason I haven't embraced this place. It's more of a gathering ground for socialists to pine about how everyone doesn't think like they do and brag about their supposed stage green superiority. Of course I acknowledge my own politics don't really make me happy or help my growth. Politics is inherently divisive by it's nature, and holding one's political beliefs as superior is inherently egotistical.

The progressives in the US give the vibe of being neurotic and emotionally unstable, blaming society for self created problems and projecting their unhappiness onto others. That's not to say conservatives don't have their own problems.. but the truth is a grey area to me, it's not left or right.

The problem isn't Conservatism per se, but a particularly pathological form of Conservatism that's eroding American democracy.

If the contemporary Republican Party were just a Conservative political party that still respected Democratic Norms and Institutions it wouldn't be an issue.

Under Trump it's morphed into an Authoritarian Cult of Personality that's flirting with elements of fascism.

And even before Trump, the type of Conservatism that the Republican Party has bought on to since the time of Reagan (neo-Conservatism/Supply Side Economics) is not sustainable (socially, economically, or ecologically).

You can't promise people The American Dream (ie a middle class lifestyle) while systematically destroying support structures which ordinary people rely on to live a halfway decent life, because it leads to alienation and social disintegration as the gap between what's Promised and lived reality grows wider and wider. The only way to maintain that sort of system in the long run is Authoritarianism.
