Neurosis And Human Growth- The Struggle Toward Self-realization

1 post in this topic

I come across "NEUROSIS AND HUMAN GROWTH- The Struggle Toward Self-Realization" by Karen Horney. I read half of the book and it was very eye-opening for me so far. This is not a classic self-help book, and the language of the book is academic, unfortunately. However, she uses great examples throughout the book.

In this book, the author speaks about the process of self-idealization (neurotic growth) in contrast to self-realization (healthy growth). She then speaks about a variety of neurotic claims. In chapter 3, she speaks about our should statements. And, how our should statements are actually a tool for self-idealization. She also speaks about neurotic pride, and many other neurotic behaviors.
