@Leo Gura Have you tried no-fap?

If not, why not?

If so, why?

How did it go, if you did? Did you find it to be helpful to your work?

Technically I'm not Leo, but you might as well have asked me instead.  Yes I've done nofap, and for a while it was good.  I enjoyed a decent amount of clarity, and it felt good to be exerting self-control.  I felt empowered, undistracted and aware.  Over time I came to realise that where I used to be able to enjoy masturbation without issue, after nofap it became filled with guilt and shame when I would eventually 'fail'.  After nofap, masturbating started to cause within me all of the negative symptoms which nofappers often link to masturbation.  This struggle stayed with me for around 2 years.

Within the past year, I've been able to deprogram myself from nofap, and now I'm once again able to enjoy masturbation without any negative consequences whatsoever.  I realised that self-repression isn't the way.

@kinesin  So the negativity associated with porn may just be the harsh-judgment & shame that is indoctrinated onto it from culture?

@Leo Gura Have you tried abstinence of porn with continued masturbation?

@kinesin Not repression but transmutation is the way of the spiritual people.

@Mellocean I believe it depends on the porn.  If one is mindful, it's quite straightforward to know which porn is harmful to us, you can tell by the feelings it brings up within you.  On the other hand still images of a generally vanilla nature?  These won't cause any negative feelings or consequences unless you've been preconditioned (usually from religion or nofap) to feel shame toward all sexual images regardless of their nature.

@kinesin Shit. I was really hoping the content of the the porn won't matter, only your mindset on it. :/

No fap can be amazing with a lot of benefits however it is not for everyone. As a virgin, when i tried doing it for over 140 days it caused heavy withdrawn symptoms and downright made me depressed. There were some benefits in terms of more energy but the toll it had on my mental health was not worth it. The best thing to do is to try it for a few months and see for yourself if it is worth it or not. I know people who did it and had amazing benefits. Personally i found jerking off once every 3-4 days to be the best thing me. Overdoing masturbation just like almost anything in life can be harmful and should be avoided. That is really a no brainier.

Nofap is advertised as a cure-all quick fix (only 3 months if just doing a reboot) but there’s so much emphasis placed on resetting your streak when you “relapse”. I eventually determined that it was impossible for me at the time I was attempting.

“If I can just make it x number of days, my life will fall into place.”

Putting the cart before the horse. It’s precisely the opposite—get your life together, then you’ll realize it doesn’t matter if you jerk it occasionally, and you won’t be compelled to do it all the time.

Nofap encourages neurotic obsession with your masturbation habits. Nofappers will even acknowledge the pink elephant problem without fully connecting just how fundamental that is to the practice.

Just focus on only masturbating when you think it would be enjoyable, instead of doing so mechanically, out of a feeling of obligation. You can even experiment abstaining strategically for periods of time to see what happens. There’s no right or wrong. Masturbate consciously as much as possible, but don’t worry too much about it.

There’s a part of the LP course where Leo says something like “no one ever did anything great through avoidance.” I think he was quoting someone else. Either way, I found that helpful, as well as his video on “should statements”.

I've gone 37 days without ejaculating. It took me years to get to this point, and it was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. I've come to the conclusion that regular ejaculation isn't natural. And it's not even healthy. There are many things that are unnatural, but we as humans do them anyway, because they're healthy and good for us. But ejaculating is neither natural nor healthy. When you go three to four weeks without ejaculating, you will begin to see how bizarre this pattern of daily masturbation was. Until you go that long without ejaculating, you don't really have a contrast. Why are you rubbing your dick like a fucking monkey? Why are you spilling your semen like an undisciplined teenager? For me, this has nothing to do with sexual repression. It has to do with transcending the lower self, and the obsessions of the lower self; it has to do with transcending lust.

@Mellocean Hyper religious/dogmatic people tend to shame and repress sexuality, out of all the good qualities of your average fundamentalist, why would you adopt their repressive attitude towards sex?

Do you think that the guy who is successful with the opposite sex is doing mental jerk-offs about no fap?

@The Mystical Man Have you considered the possibility that the reason why you got attracted to the idea of sexual repression was a neurotic overreaction because of your inability to attract the opposite sex?

There is nothing sophisticated, advanced or conscious about nofap.

I have thought about that, and that may be a factor, but that's not the main reason. Again, it's not sexual repression. I have a different orientation. Just look into your direct experience. How do you feel when you lose your semen everyday? And how do you feel when you have balls filled with semen?

What's so funny about that? Maybe it's natural to ejaculate once or twice in one lifetime. But if you lose your semen on a daily basis, there is nothing natural nor healthy about it.

Depends how you define 'nature'. If you think of it in terms of survival and instinct, ejaculating as much as a regular person does he does because his body brings him to do that. He feels urges.  You could say it is programmed into him that way and so, that is natural.

Your understanding of how semen works is silly.

Your semen will be expelled from your body within a week or two if you don't ejaculate it out. It will come out in your urine.

Semen is a LIVE and precious substance. You do not get to keep a batch of semen brewing in your nuts for a lifetime, Lol.

Apes and monkeys jerk off on a daily basis. Nothing unnatural about it.

What's truly unnatural is you not busting your nuts for years. And it's almost certainly bad for your health.

The idea that ejaculation is bad for your health is absurd. You are basically a sex machine. Ejaculation is what you were born for.

You would be better off if you just owned your sexuality.

That depends.

For someone in his teens, ejaculating every day, not really a problem.
For someone in his 30's, ejaculating everyday feels like you've been drown of all your energy for a good day (at least for me).

Also depends of how your body is producing semen, some men produce it faster than others, and also some men feel the lack of it way less (or more).

So it depends of your age and biology for the frequency, and it also depends if you're addict or not to porn, which is definitely fucking you up if you are.
That's a highly relative subject, and only you know if it's good for you or not to fap/watch porn or not.

Don't listen to people that says it's all good, no problem at all with it, or the reverse, it's definitely a problem, you should never do it.
That's dogmatic thinking and it isn't taking into account anything other than just their personal experience (at best).
