The New-Age movement

19 posts in this topic

Say what you want about the New-Age, it does have a way of uniting people and bringing them together to form a common vision for what they want the planet to look like. This is something amazing and special about the New-Age believers that you don't quite see elsewhere. Most of them want World Peace, most of them want to live a more natural and healthy lifestyle. Stage Green ftw on this one!

What communities do you see that really embody and embrace the New Age ethos or New Age values?

How is this even a question.

Good question.  There is a massive chasm between Leo's teachings and what is considered new age.

New age is an umbrella term for a lot of different beliefs and ideologies most of which are extremely surface level and superficial in nature.  That is the primary difference.  What Leo teaches about is the vast depth of reality and enlightenment.  This is far different than the majority of new age concepts like crystal healing or a lot of other seemingly silly things that pot heads with dreads do (not to hate on those types of people I love them, they're awesome in their own way :D).

From the outside people will probably view Leo's stuff as new age.  But, upon further inspection and understanding I believe that it's not really a fair classification.  Spiritual or existential philosophy is more apt.

What Leo teaches is more logically accurate or conceptually sound. He's coming at non-duality from a philosophical perspective and he's wanting to be philosophically accurate with it and he focuses on the strange-loop aspects a lot. He pre-empts questions and objections and works on making his points conceptually sound and his stances philosophically sound.

The New-Age is more about energy, perceiving energy through felt-perception and visual. It's more intuitive and less logical. Not irrational, a-rational. It's not very philosophically rigorous, they don't focus on that too much, on the logical rigor aspect but it's more about community, veganism, connecting with nature, guided meditations, psychics and healers, crystals, One-Love visualizations for the world, etc.

@RillesWell, a lot of stuff Leo teaches seems New-agey. So I wanted a clear distinction and interpertation from you guys.

I feel like his flavor is more philosophical rather than New Agey. But hes so broad that some New Agey concepts are bound to show up sometimes.

It just depends on how you define "New-Age" for yourself. There´s no absolute answer to what "New-Age" means. It all depends on what you include and exclude into that concept.

Yo Bro!

We will ascend high up to the 5th density and unite with our galactic space family.

We will be embraced by the highest vibrations possible!

Then we kick them reptilian alien nazis right in the caballz.

If this doesn't happen. I'll put 6 month worth of 5-meo-dmt up my ass and then I'll definitely ascend!

5th dimension FTW!!!  Yeah!

I'll then ascend so HIGH that no interstellar craft will stop me!

Leo teaches about God.

New Age, I don't feel like it even has a solid belief system. IT seems to be a hodge podge of various mystical things. Leo incorporates new age but transcends it as well

My observation is that the New Age movement is mostly defined by people on the outside, and many of those are critical: so the whole concept is a straw man. I mean, there's a lot of folks who use crystals or do Reiki etc without considering themselves to belong to the New Age. Much of the narrative is self-serving, referencing those woolly-minded people over there, vs me with my slick beliefs over here.

Originally, before this straw manning, the New Age (Age of Aquarius) was a theory based on the precession of the equinoxes, which is based to some extent on sound science.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Aquarius

However it then brings in astrological ideas about cosmic energies affecting us here on Earth, with the age of Pisces (effectively Christianity for westerners), replaced by Aquarius at some point: more fluid, watery. At some point around the 1980s this became the slightly derogatory umbrella term in use up till now. My hope is that it will change in future and become a more positive term for a smaller, more succinct but real movement.

Relax, it's just my loosely held opinion.  :)

Another point about the so-called New Age movement is how much stage orange it has integrated, compared to mainstream religions. I've been to a few New Age fairs, which were like market places with small traders all selling a product as a business. It's commercialised spirituality, nothing wrong with that in principle, but there's something missing of the stage blue community which will hopefully re-emerge when there's more stage green emerging. How does the diversity of individualised therapists deal with poor people who cannot afford the rather high prices, for example.

I remember that time when I energized my crystals in the sun. So that I could put them home and have that good vibe energy. Also used a lot of incense and  Tibetan singing bowls. Veganism, nature, and minimalism were the way. Lived close to very loving people and worked outdoors as a gardener. Meditated together to bring more light into the planet, enjoying the sunny days and spiritual retreats, etc.

I even remember the coming of Maitreya Buddha that would usher us into the new age of Aquarius. The coming of our galactic family to help us out. The end of millennia of the misery of separation.  I am even though that we would erase global poverty when the Germaine funds will get released.

Then I changed. I realized Veganism was just a selfish survival strategy to avoid suffering (high vibe=no problems). I threw the crystals, incense, and Tibetan bowls in the garbage can. Instead of a gardener, I became an electrician. Instead of minimalism and love, I just stopped running from pain and finally bought all the material needs that I wanted and became autonomous. Instead of some Maitreya, I manifested other living teachers that I got constantly triggered by.  Also got alcoholism as a bonus and now rely on my monetary gain. I do not know if I got a huge ego backlash or ascended/descended on the SD scale. All I can say is things have changed since then and it seems it changed for the better. I still do have these fantasies in the background as a foundation to my current life situation.
