The Baffling Popularity of Dan Crenshaw

32 posts in this topic

To the people here who'd like a stage yellow Vaush, I think I may have stumbled across the next best thing. There is this podcast I recently came across called Srsly Wrong (the misspelling is intentional). It's a podcast with two hosts who are both really into philosophy and politics. For each episode they've picked a theme, such as Neoliberalism, Emotional Intelligence, Convenience, Prisons etc. and talk about it on the podcast.

What really stands out to me about this podcast is their non-judgemental, neutral attitude, their intellectual honesty and objectivity and their curiosity and desire to explore multiple different perspectives in depth on any given issue. Both hosts are leftists, but I don't get the impression that they are leftists because of ideological reasons, but rather just because that's where they've naturally arrived through doing their own contemplation and research. I don't ever get the vibe that they are ideologues. It really feels like a proper stage yellow podcast.

They've published around 229 episodes so far, so it's hard to pick the best episode to recommend to newcomers, but I think one of their latest episodes, about political charts, would be a good start:

@Leo Gura what examples did you step outside your lane and be incorrect?

Don't recall off the top of my head. But I'm sure it's happened.

@Denial A pig who LOVES wrestling in the mud, and will drag pretty much anyone who comes close to him down into the mud with him.

@CultivateLoveFucking true lol. I love watching him, but it's getting pretty unhealthy as I know that what he is doing isn't really that much out of the concern for mankind, and more just for personal entertainment. It's hard to do both, but I think he has done a decent job.

@Denial I just see him as a damaged individual with zero emotional awareness or empathy, all brain, no heart. Typical "emotions are for girls/dumb people" guy, not seeing it's actually stunting his development by a ton.

@CultivateLoveHe is emotionally repressed. Got neglected a lot as child. If he where start meditating or become non-dual/conscious he would probably kill himself. That may be harsh to assume but he is too comfortable being like this and have even said himself that if he were to explore his emotions he would fear that he might start suffering a lot like most streamers do. Which is caring about what other people think about you and neuroticism in general. All he cares about is playing video games and debating politics. In some sense I have no problem with it, but in another way the type of mindset he has about life is extremely cancerous which is the same mindset a lot of the right-wingers he has debated has. Which is egotism/maximizing your ego's needs and doesn't really wanna go deeper than that.

@Denial he is probably too left brained and too overly edgy sometimes.

having said that if you look past that stuff he’s actually a pretty sophisticated thinker

@Joel3102Yeah I like the fact that he isn't really that ideological. It becomes very easy to go with a script of talking points when you become attached to your audience view of you. It can mean you lose money, friends and get more shit/hate. Destiny has butchered a shit ton of his viewers because they realized that he wasn't a socialist for example. Someone like Tim Pool/Ben Shapiro would never do that. But since Destiny only cares about making logical arguments and being independent it makes it easier for him to be more flexible. Even Vaush can be a little preachy sometimes, though more conscious than most online lefties I think. That is not to say though that Destiny is always right, and doesn't say stupid shit. But he does justify his statements better than most, even if he's wrong

@Denial yeah I’d say he’s one of the least ideological people in that YouTube/twitch political scene. He genuinely just wants the best society that helps overall wellbeing and doesn’t really have an attachment to how to get there. If he’s arguing against socialism it’s a pragmatic approach about how would it actually work in practice, not stupid conservative talking points about how it’s evil and redistribution being immoral. When he’s doing a legit research stream or trying to get to the bottom of a deep issue non ideologically  is when he’s at his best
