Waking Up By Sam Harris

6 posts in this topic

In Waking Up, Harris argues that it is difficult to see the relation between consciousness and matter. Thus, a more precise way of examining consciousness is with meditation. To this view, the practice can be taken up without the formalities of organized religion. Religion has its dogma and lack of scientific rigor in comparison to the scientific worldview of today. What do you make of taking up spiritual practices from a rational point of view?

Nice video man, just a few tips on the filming side. Make sure your camera is white balanced everytime you move to different locations, also the make sure to correctly expose the camera as the shot is quite dark. I use to work on big budget feature films so wanted to offer u some tips, (don't want to sound condercending aha)

But I liked cut aways and the image dose stand out somehow x

It will eventually have to collapse, but most start it from a rational view which is fine.

Waking Up by Sam Harris is great. If it wasn't for Sam Harris advocating for meditation, who knows, maybe I wouldn't have gotten into any of this.

If someone starts off rationalist, a mystical experience or two from practice can open you up, if you're willing to not be blind and very dogmatic about interpreting it. Unfortunately Sam himself though is.

Hark ye yet again — the little lower layer. All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event — in the living act, the undoubted deed — there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask! How can the prisoner reach outside except by thrusting through the wall? To me, the white whale is that wall, shoved near to me. Sometimes I think there's naught beyond. But 'tis enough.
