The Past

22 posts in this topic

When I am in a dream at night, I can imagine a past that actually did not happen. Is what we call "the past" here the same? Me actually imagining something called "the past" which actually never happened?

All these questions regarding analogous life similarities ontologically to a "dream" have no answer.

You can read Rene descartes ' meditations where he asked the simple question "how do you know you are not dreaming right fucking now?.... Given that every time you dream you don't know it". And ofcourse the answer is you don't know and can't know. I would drop this whole inquiry and go grap a snack.

But cool discussions you start!  Keep em going ?

Don't take my word for it,-(cause I don't know!) but, let's do some inquiry....

The past is a thought. Memory are thoughts.

I'm very fascinated with false memory in sleeping dreams. I too have wondered how much is operating on false memories. Can you tell me a memory that is definitely not a false memory?

I used to think my memories were mine. But one day I realised that nearly everything I could remember as a small kid, there was a corresponding photo for in one of my mum's albums.

The past happened, inasmuch as there is an imprint of it in the present moment.

All stories and explanations are false.

Yeah, I cannot say it is not just a thought whose reality I believe. Memory is not a proof in that sense really.

Can i experience the past? I really like to experience it ( past and future) but it seems like i can only be in the NOW. And so what's this past really?

I think you can travel to the past and future, you can imagine and believe yourself in those places, but of course it will still be here and now.

Yes, even if you do so, you are always in here and Now, you can never escape the present moment.

I am the eternal present moment.

Yes, you are a being, so you can only be. Being here and now for eternity.

When the mind is quiet, the whole world bows down to it. I get it.

I am a writer and when I write stories it is like, for instance, a past experience of a character pops up in my mind in that moment, creating, in a sense, the past in the moment. I wonder if it is something like that in this "reality" in that sense. A thought of a memory, for instance, comes to your mind, but maybe it is not more different than the fictional memories of my character. Seeming to be realistic depending on the, like, energy of the moment.

@Vibroverse is vibroverse a fictional character?

I think it is in a sense. If this is a dream of awareness, then it is a character in a sense.

I think it is. In my opinion, @Vibroverse was created 293 posts ago. Do you have some kind of backstory for before that?

Lol just joshing...  I'm sure@Vibroverse has always been around in one form or another
