Whole Foods CEO on Joe Rogan

@Preety_India sure, I was just talking about action we can all take like now, if you get me, to create abundance & freedom in our own lives, that’s all :)

If I’m honest, I don’t know the ins & outs of different socialist systems to say for sure either way, it’s become quite a loaded term these days.

Also it's not be overlooked that both Social Democracy and Socialism both make heavy use of Markets to produce and distribute Goods, the main difference being that workers in both cases benefit from a far more just socio-economic arrangement. There's absolutely no reason to think that something like Whole Foods couldn't exist under both systems.

@DocWatts ^^^^ Agree.

I think we tend to think in extremes a lot which is amplified by the media & division we see today.

Capitalism Vs Socialism

Capitalism vs Communism

Even, Socialism vs Communism which is a big one on Twitter haha.

I think any ideology will eventually rot itself, Leo's conscious politics do a really good job of explaining this, and explaining how an open minded idea to policies would be so beneficial and basing it on Results, not simply ideologies.

@LfcCharlie4 For sure, any political system should really be just a Means to an end for achieving a just and prosperous society, rather than an End in and of itself (something that ideologues tend to lose sight of).

@DocWatts That is such a succinct & great point, thanks for putting it so simply!

And, of course society should at least begin to help people fulfil their potential on a “human” level & help them awaken, but were 1000s of years away from that it seems, I think your idea makes much more sense for the more short term evolution

The real problem is that our financial system is built on artificial scarcity and endless growth.

You can't have conscious capitalism when money is created at interest by privately owned banks. Or when people are incentivized to horde money rather than be generous.

Capitalism vs socialism is a debate that doesn't go deep enough.

@aurum Hardly anyone knows how the private banking system works / how money & where money is actually created.

I recently got a bank loan for my business, and it’s literally just digits just appearing on a screen, and then you pay it back + interest, and for those who can’t (there’s going to be a lot due to Covid) guess what the bank get?

@Leo Gura  watching. I like the line where you say

"for every 1 person who gets capital in a capitalist system there are hundreds of people who are wage slaves and have no capital."

On point. Still watching.

One thing to add about the academics. The construct of tenure is super important for the type of academic freedom and pursuit of truth Leo describes. It is a like a protective shield that allows many academics to explore truth. Most capitalist administrators and Board of Trustee members don’t like it. They see it as guaranteeing a “lifetime job” and it shifts power from administration to faculty.

Capitalistic forces are not just businesses outside of academia. Academic Institutions have internal capitalistic business aspects. Sometimes administration converts a faculty member into an administrator. Sometimes this can be a good liaison, yet quite often faculty sees it as as one of their own joining “the dark side”.

I really enjoyed that blog post. I would be interested in Leo doing a critique of socialism too to see both sides as he says he isn't a socialist. The problems of capitalism seem obvious to me. Democratic socialism not so much.

Of course capitalism corrupts academia too. When academics are poor and underpaid, they are easy to seduce to the dark side.

Many of the best academics quit and went to work in the private sector because the pay is much better.

I finally got around to listening to this guy's thoughts on capitalism and socialism.  He says he's well read on socialism, but his thoughts on the subject are extremely simplistic.  He didn't have one interesting or novel thing to say.  Just another rich guy who wants lower taxes because dur durdur trickle down.

Lets not actually look at the reality of massively growing wealth disparity and suggest that perhaps that people shouldn't go into massive debt because of medical bills or higher education.  Meanwhile people of his ilk make more money on a green day in the stock market than most people will in a lifetime by 100 fold.  How is that a win win win situation, Mr. CEO?  Yes, it's a good thing that you make millions while literally taking a dump as the stock market gets pumped with welfare money from the central bank.  All while Joe Blow literally can't fall ill because he has no insurance and will literally get pushed into bankruptcy if he does.  Why was this dude on Joe Rogan?  He's no more articulate than an average person on the subject.  If you want to talk capitalism get a real libertarian economist on, then at least you'll get some better arguments.

If you want a real example of a conscious capitalist, look to someone like Bill Gates, who's using the immense wealth he's made under Capitalism to make conditions better for some of the poorest people in the world, and is in fact planning on giving away almost all of his Wealth.

John Mackey doesn't strike me as really that different from other extremely wealthy people who come up with self-serving reasons to prop up a system that they happen to be benefiting from.

Vowsh uploaded a video DEBUNKING this whole foods fool

Hark ye yet again — the little lower layer. All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event — in the living act, the undoubted deed — there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask! How can the prisoner reach outside except by thrusting through the wall? To me, the white whale is that wall, shoved near to me. Sometimes I think there's naught beyond. But 'tis enough.
