A great title for an Onion article.

I really don't buy this claim that Trump is going to somehow hold on to the Presidency after he loses, how is that possible?

let's just wait and see what happens. I'm not saying this is what will happen but given the current circumstances a constitutional crisis could occur and be dishonestly resolved by a right leaning supreme court. we are in uncharted waters.

Similar to Bush vs Gore, yet on a larger scale.

Yup, I could see a Bush V Gore scenario on steroids that could do a ton of damage to the current institutions. The well has been poisoned long ago when it comes to how the public trusts media. You will literally have a thousand different takes all arguing making it easy for a dishonest administration to push a BS narrative and steal the election.

Biden is actually preparing an unprecedented legal team war room before the election to take any and every swing state to court where there is some doubt over the vote/suppression of it.

This is an area I think Biden’s team could have a big advantage. Trump’s team isn’t oriented toward long-term strategic planning, they are much more oriented toward reacting to current events - it’s a strength in some contexts, yet a weakness in other contexts.

I’m hoping Biden’s team with Kamala, Obama support are building a massive strategic legal team - I think there are a lot of legal professionals that won’t Trump out. I don’t have much faith in Biden, yet I’m hoping he has a large team quietly working behind the scenes.

And don't forget, if Trump loses, he can run again in 2024.

You have to be alive to run for president.

He's already laying the groundwork.

Trump will never admit defeat, even if he loses both the popular vote and electoral college. He has already blamed any future loss on Democrat rigging and fraud. No matter what happens the Democrats will be scapegoated and gaslit for the loss. Everything Trump does to rig the system he will blame on Democrats and progressives.

@Leo Gura For me i don't like either Trump nor Biden. But i think that Trump is more of a powerful leader than Biden will be!

By more powerful leader you mean an authoritarian. That is exactly the problem. We don't need a more powerful president.

I live in eastern europe and i fear that if Biden will be president Putin will toy around with him! And i fear that Putin might get out of control in eastern Europe and he could anex Belarus and even more parts of Ukraine! Trump at least has the balls to stand up to him if he gets out of hand!

You got it backwards. Trump will not defend anything against Putin.

If Putin annexed any more territory, Biden and his administration would be very against it and tough on Putin with crazy sanctions. Biden is not weak on Russia or NATO. Trump has been undermining NATO.

Oh, his health looks good enough to be alive.

The biggest problem for him is: you have to be out of prison to run for president.

If Trump loses, there's a good chance he's going to prison. Tons of criminal cases pending against him.

Which is why he will refuse to leave office. For Trump, leaving office is basically a prison sentence. He needs the immunity.

@Husseinisdoingfine He will muddy the election results so that it isn't clear in his follower's minds that he lost. So his followers will feel outraged even if he loses. They will precieve it as radical socialists trying to steal an election.

Laws and courts cannot kick Trump out, only the military high command can. And they will be very hesistant to get involved.

Congress cannot kick him out. And 95% of conservatives in Congress will feel that Trump won even if he loses because they just want to keep power.

It's gonna be a complete clusterfuck. Trump will take the whole country down with him.

Guys..... please!! Trump is NOT a gangster! You can take that to the bank!!! :) He is NOT a martyr fighting for a cause.... He isn't built for mutiny....In fact, He is all too fragile for that!! In the west, because of the relative order and the civility and the  lack of chaos people tend to have an unrealistic image of people who talk "tough". (Bill Maher for one) Ascribing to them things that they are simply not!

Trump might wish to not leave the white house but by no means is he capable of orchestrating REAL disruption in the system or the country.

He already has orchestrated it.

Trump certainly cannot be a serious dictator, because he is not a serious person, but he can destroy American from within like a saboteur or con artist by polarizing the culture war. Which is exactly his entire strategy and talent. The greatest damage he's doing is radicalizing average people to believe in his egoically twisted version of reality. The brainwashing of the American culture and people by right-wing politics is extremely problematic and dangerous. And it has already happened.

The only question is how to cure this cancer of the collective mind.

@Leo Gura All true. But with him the game goes on as long as he or his brand doesn't have to pay a price in any form or shape. When anything from him is on the line, He folds like a lawn chair!!!

@Merkabah Of course he's a paper tiger. His bluster is merely an overcompensation of his own weakness. He's a weakling posturing as a strongman.

But nevertheless, he is a highly skilled con artist and bullshittter who spreads untruth, delusion, and corruption. And that alone is dangerous in the information age. Rolling tanks through the streets is no longer the main issue in the 21st century. The real issue is corruption of peoples' minds.

I think the idea of him winning or losing or being this or that and taking down the whole country is irrelevant.  That maybe there was and is a massively bigger picture at play.

Yeah....but I don't think it will be Florida this time.  I think Florida will go Red, but Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin may go up to Thanksgiving.  The attorney's are going to get wealthy in 2020.

I think this is a serious possibility and danger:

Him or the likes of Ben Shapiro.

Once Trump fades away, the biggest question will be: What form does conservatism take in America? In a post-Trump political world, I think a lot of right-wing celebrities and talk show hosts will start vying for the top role.

It's going to come down to some scary "Beto O'Rourke vs Richard Spencer" matchup... or the likes of that.

The establishment (Republicans and Democrats) now know that they can scare progressives to the center by dangling a Neofascist in front of anyone even remotely left of center. This enables them to maintain the status quo where the establishment politicians pockets can continue to be lined with bribes from billionaires, major industries, and special interest groups.

So, it benefits the establishment to run ever worsening progressions of "Neoliberal vs Neofascist" because very few will vote for a progressive anti-establishment candidate (like a Bernies Sanders type), if it risks helping the Neofascist get elected.

This is the dangerous game of voting for the lesser of two evils... which I'm supposing is the only kind of election they'll ever run from here on out. It just works too well to scare people into fortifying the power of politicians and billionaires... including the owners of major companies and industries.

Historically, truth always wins out in the end. The dissolution of the Soviet Union that inspired George Orwell's 1984 is one of many examples.

What is unique about the Alternative Facts cult led by Donald Trump is not merely its vast scale, but its existence within a society newly connected to the infinite galaxy of information that is the Internet. In fact, this is the very problem.

Mainstream news and late night comedy shows have spent years proving that Trump possesses some of the most dastardly possible human qualities stemming from his apparent personality disorder: unintelligence, corruption, cruelty, pettiness, divisiveness, narcissism, crudeness and general ghastlyness.

The cult is well aware of this, but is coming from a completely different level of consciousness. The mainstream culture, which is undoubtedly far from perfect, has been defamed on social media to the extent that Trump can be viewed as a saviour heroically tormenting and crushing the enemy. All his ugliness thus becomes a positive. This narrative has numerous psychological benefits:

* Simple story of a wicked, child-molesting, socialist, subhuman outgroup called the Democrats battling the heroic protagonist Trump. Better than the anxiety-inducing complexity, confusion and loss of control of tackling the information/misinformation overload as an individual, which is more than weak minded people can tolerate.

* A sense of brotherly unity against an enemy fulfils human desire for companionship, a tribe, and a wicked foe whose defeat gives a sense of purpose.

* Now one can have the ability to live in a make-believe fantasy world where anything you want to be true is true. Children use fantasy as a coping mechanism during intense stress, and now adults can too. Other people are to blame for everything. Scientists who present disturbing information about ecology can be silenced or 'debunked' to resolve feelings of anxiety. And feeling good about it provides a reward to the brain, incentivising ever more divorce from reality.

Dealing with mental health woes on a vast scale is hard, but the inevitability of restraints on social media 'free speech' as a trojan horse for manipulation of the gullible is a small first step, as will be a grown-up president at some stage. For us, understanding the psychological phenomena at play is crucial. Just my 2c.
