Eye Strain during mindfulness?

3 posts in this topic

When I do mindfulness exercises, I notice that my eyes strain and hurt a lot (even when it is pitch black and I'm not trying to look at anything). I think one reason this is the case is that I identify mindfulness with sight, and that the source of what I am is like an eyeball seeing things, seeing sights, seeing what I am hearing, feeling, smelling, and so on. I want to be able to feel and hear into my experiences by being them rather than seeing them if that makes sense but I am not sure how to do this.

Do any of you share a similar frustration? Do you know of any alternatives?

Make sure when you begin that your eyes are equally staring into the darkness. Mine tend to shift to my dominant right eye, which causes strain. Teach yourself to look evenly in the darkness, and then to stop looking with your eyes at all.

When raising the eyes towards third eye I always have trouble but I just wear an eye mask to take care of eye twitching for example
