More Orange support for BLM

Alabama University football is a religion in Alabama. The Crimson Tide are the best program in college football history. The state has no professional sports teams and they are obsessed with Alabama football. . . . Alabama is also a deep red conservative state with an abundance of confederate flags and monuments. Trump destroyed Hilary in Alabama by a massive 28%. 

I find it interesting that the Alabama football program put out a video supporting BLM. 

There was no racist incident anywhere near campus or the city that the program was forced to respond to. The students aren’t even on campus now. Why would the football program release a BLM video featuring their Hall of Fame coach? I doubt it was motivated by a hunger for Green racial equality. The Alabama coaches, staff, administration and Board of Trustees ain’t Green. They are Blue/Orange. And this video got approval from the very top. I speculate that the main motivation was Orange: desire for winning and making huge profits.

The coaches realize that if they want to recruit players of color, they better get on board, and the players know it too. Saban’s success has been attributable to the Black players he has recruited for his teams. About 80% of Alabama's starting football players are Black. Some fans are infuriated with the BLM video, yet my hunch is that the vast majority of fans will prioritize winning and stomach a BLM video from their beloved football team. 

I think it’s another example of Orange indirectly assistIng Green.

The good thing about this is that a lot of Blue/Orange football fans will watch this who would otherwise dismiss BLM, but then take a moment to think about the message more critically because it’s coming from a source they put authority in.

@Apparition of Jack  Yep. They cannot be dismissed as looters or rioters. As well, I think this could prompt other Southern schools to produce similar videos. I wouldn’t be surprised if Alabama’s biggest rival, Clemson, released something soon. 

It’s to Green’s advantage to have Orange join in, even if Orange is motivated by their own self interests.

Of course the public support would be inevitable. The majority of African-Americans are in the South/South-East right? It would be unwise to piff off such a huge portion of your population and go against the grain like you said.

I'm not American so I can only say this with so much authority, but I think the stereotype of southerners being mouth breathing racist hicks has been blown way out of proportion. I believe people down there are much more hospitable and "liberal" (relatively) than is portrayed. The racism that does happen is NOT ok but I think it's a LOT less frequent than we're led to believe. It's just that everyone has phone to record everything these days and the only thing that gets a lot of attention this past decade is outrage porn.

This is new. Public support for black issues in the South has never had over 50% support.

My brother lives in South Carolina. I’ve been there about five times. Most of the people I met were decent blue stage people. Very religious and nationalistic. The main city of Charleston is Orange-centered with plenty of Blue and a sprinkling of Green. A lot of the people have pride in their history and heritage. For example, they have very strict codes about building new structures and repairing old buildings. Everything has to match the previous history. There is also a unique hospitality. Yet there are plenty of underlying racist aspects worse than up north. There are lots of confederate flags and monuments. Statues of slave traders. It came up in discussion a few times and everyone I met said it was “history” and “heritage” and they saw nothing wrong with them.  I mentioned the civil war in a cafe and a few people got upset I called it the civil war. A man corrected me and said “You mean The War of Northern Aggression”. I thought they were playing with me, since I was obviously from up north. I laughed, thinking it was a joke and a couple guys got pissed.  My brother grabbed my arm and told me they are serious and to shut up. . . The segregation and job disparity is much more severe than up north. It took me less than an hour to notice that black people only have lower level service positions. I specifically looked for a black person in a mid to high level position and didn’t see one. It was very rare to see black and white people co-mingling. You are either black or white there and have your place. It’s much more dramatic than up North or out west. I didn’t see any overt fire breathing racism. I never heard anyone using a racial slur. It’s a different type of racism -  racial undertones. I dated a black woman a couple years ago and we agreed that we would not visit my family there due to the level of racism in the state. We went to Florida instead - which has a very different dynamic than South Carolina. We did Miami and the Florida keys and I felt no racism directed against us. Miami is has a lot of racial diversity and about half the people are bilingual with Spanish.

There are healthy aspects of Blue and Orange that built the country. That is worthy for green to integrate, respect and even honor. Yet there is also a toxic underbelly of Blue and Orange that is rancid. I think it’s important to acknowledge it and learn from it, yet in terms of psychological and societal development, I see little value in integrating it. In the course of evolution, some aspects go extinct.

@Serotoninluv  Yes I agree, I would love to see green integrate the good stuff from lower stages, its something green struggles quite a bit these days, being a stage so recent and juvenile. I am grateful that that healthy variants of the lower stages are coming to support it. It feels almost like a miracle.

An Alabama mayor resigned after controversial Facebook posts about the University of Alabama’s football team and its posts backing the Black Lives Matter movement. 

Carbon Hill, Ala., Mayor Mark Chambers reportedly turned in his resignation letter on Saturday, though the town has yet to approve it, according to several local news reports. An emergency meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.

The resignation letter came on the same day that Chambers posted on Facebook that he was selling “several” pictures, saying that the Alabama football team and head coach Nick Saban are “done in my opinion,” according to AL.com.

In response to a person’s comment about the team’s performance, Chambers said, “I’m not getting rid of them because of how they have performed. Their sorry ass political views is why their [sic] getting out of my house.”

To another comment, he responded, “When you put Black lives before all lives they can kiss my ass.” 

Chambers’s Facebook post came two days after Alabama Football tweeted out a two-minute video that included players and Saban reading an essay by offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood. The essay included the sentence, “All lives can’t matter until black lives matter.”

The blm leader comments are nothing short of terrorism as i posted in another thread. Its ridiculous that anything Conservative is banned or blocked but calls for violence, celebrating riots, and insanity is fair play. Intellectual honesty would call out murder in the own community, abortions, fatherless homes, and a disproportionate amount of crime. 

I am going to predict the following will have severe consequences. Even the most moderate voters are going to swing.

Spreading ideology is against forum guidelines. Be here to learn. You’ve been given multiple chances to open your mind and start learning and expanding, yet refuse to do so. You are now pushing the limit.

Hawk’s position is more nuanced than your framing. A full interview of his position was posted in the thread, yet you obviously didn’t watch it and would rather hold on to your pre-conceived ideology. You can choose to hold onto your ideology and remain contracted, yet don’t pull others on the forum down with you.

You do. That is something that bothers me sometimes.

You know, I have my money on a weird spot. I see people putting their money on progressives/green flooding and "overtaking" society, thus establishing a new normal, as if emergence of a new stage brings only "good" for society. I actually have my money on pushing and making proper change, but at the same on other stages to properly resist and not let green has its way all the way. One does not let a kid play with knifes.

For eg: The environment issues, the food industry, psychedelics, oppressed groups, the health system, UBI, education ...ect... are things that should be addressed way more seriously. But on the other hand the chaotic social-constructionist and post-modern part needs to crystallize and stuff just needs to go.

In short it would be great for green to push, but also for the rest to filter out the junk green is throwing instead of dismissing all as jung and resisting.
