Discipline and watching too many self help videos...

21 posts in this topic

Hey guys ,fellow INTP here ,  I am having a problem. During this quarantine, since there is so much free time , I can’t bring myself to do my school stuff and am really lacking discipline. I keep on saying ‘ok , now I will do this!’ Or ‘now I will do that‘ but in reality nothing gets done. I am mostly lost in my head and whole day I am watching self help / meditation, consciousness YouTube videos and literally it has become an addiction . Whenever I try to do my school assignments etc , I become too distracted and start thinking about consciousness, self help , success etc . And the worst part is that after not being able to do what I want to do , I go to YouTube and search ‘how to be disciplined’ or ‘how to be hard working’ etc  . Which wastes even more time .  I keep making plans but never actually implementing that ...and when I cannot do what I planned , I just say ‘ok , you know the school system is bad , it just wants to create robots ?’. How can I get out of this rut of watching self actualization videos and build some discipline? Please help .

Make a list but keep it realistic. Don't allow yourself to startup your pc or whatever before you complete the list.

You can make lots of lists but can you commit to at least one?

Make checklists and check-mark each activity after you accomplish it. Seeing your list fully marked at the end of the day is so pleasing.

Dopamine-detox yourself from novelty and work on those long-term goals doing baby steps.

Dopamine-detox

What does this mean? And how I do this?

Everytime you get some novelty or something that gives you pleasure (social media scrolling, porn-masturbation, sugar, new information, tv, videogames, etc) your brain gets a shot of dopamine.

Many constant shots of dopamine trains your brain that it can only be motivated by instant gratification activities, making the real work just unappealing.

So take one day off instant-gratification or just consume it a lot less.

It is a compulsive act , I become conscious of it after I did it .

I have the same problem, and the solution I found is to reprogram my mind using the concept of law of attraction but through FEELLING.

Why? If you are like me, you are too mental and too "aware" of your misconducts. And, according to the law of attraction, what happens when we pay too much attention on one thing? We find and attract more of it. So, when we are constantly looking for problems to fix, what do we always find? Yes, more problems to fix.

This made my mind looping on negativity and I just found out how to fix it.

Just focus on the feelings you want to create and attract more of. If you want to feel accomplished and proud, create a image in your mind and feel the shit out of it. Do this as much as possible, specially before and immediately after sleep.

It is really simple, I just think about the word "health", for instance, and focus on the feeling of it for as long as possible.

Read "The feeling is the secret" by Neville Goddard. It is small, 18 pages, but powerful and direct to the point. Most law of attraction books take 200 pages to explain the concepts that this little book contains.

The important thing here is to train your mind to focus  and concentrate on only states that you want more of.

This ability is key!

Yes, it is helping but these things take time to gain a really good momentum although you can see changes fast. Right now I am focusing on healing my body and mind, this will give me a nice foundation for self actualization, a health body generates a health mind, it's all connected.

There cannot be a shortcut to doing.

Reconnect yourself with a juicy vision for your life, and then just do it. It will feel hard and uncomfortable at first.

A juicy vision is crucial, otherwise you can't even be motivated to try.

FYI, breaking addictions is always hard and there is no way to avoid suffering. Which is why you should be careful not to get addicted to begin with.

If you get addicted to heroin, there's no painless way out. You must go through the withdrawal.

See my video: Overcoming Addiction, which gives you the ultimate solution to addiction.

But also! Don't guilt yourself too hard for watching self-help videos. This is still valuable stuff which is an investment in your future. There are much worse ways to spend your time.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

@Leo Gura thanks man ! i watch so many videos of yours , yet i forgot the point that there is no magic pill(which you said both in the big picture of self actualization and 40 tips) and today i will watch overcoming addiction. The vision will  motivate me . i have a nice sorta vision but not the perfect one , because i have not bought the Life Purpose course yet!!!(i have been saving money right now) , but yeah thanks , i will not guilt myself....:D

@kireet  make it less basic and add 3,4,5 you can get excited about?

what a bout life? witnessing it evolve? contribution to your community? discipline- which aha, calculus fits into!

Man, you don't even know how lucky you are. When I was in school, I basically hated learning. I couldn't memorize all those boring BS and I didn't have any patience. So, I distracted myself with video games and surfing the web mindlessly.

You're so lucky that you're distracting yourself with self-development/spirituality because these things actually help you make the best out of your life. Video games and internet lead to nowhere. Now, don't take this the wrong way say "Oh, let's forget school and instead let's watch self-help videos 24/7 and everything will be fine". You should do well in school because that way, it'll be much easier to get the job you desire in the future. Or maybe you won't get the to do your desired job in the beginning, but you'll still have a stable career and financial independence. Then, you'll have the opportunity to work out your life purpose.

These material things do matter too if you want to make the best out of your life.

@nistake not true bro.

Video games keep you relaxed and get you friends. You also have more things to talk about with your friends at that time. You probably teach them what to play too. Gaming makes you creative and more imaginative at work.
