Describe Your Home Culture - Mega-Thread

8 posts in this topic

[I WILL COMPLETE MY POST IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO WRITE A DETAILED POST CURRENTLY. BUT I WANTED TO START THIS POST SO THAT YOU MAY NOW WRITE. I THINK EVERYONE CAN USE THIS APPROACH AND OVER TIME DEVELOP THEIR POST WITH MORE AND MORE DEPTH] :)

Seeing as there are people on this forum from all over the world, I hope we could make a mega-thread where everyone can share their culture so that we can learn about new ways of living (good and bad).

I'll kick-start this by talking about my home country - Macedonia (currently North Macedonia). I'll make at as concentrated as I can:

  • It's a small country - about 2 million people. Half of the people live in the capital Skopje
  • The people range from Stage Red to Stage Green. In the capital Skopje I think the average is Blue / Orange, while in the smaller towns the people are mostly Red / Blue.
  • Economic opportunity: <...>
  • Education system: <...>
  • Religion: <...>

To be continued...

Romania

20 million people

People Range from Beige to Blue and rarely Green. Some are Orange, the youth.

The work force and opportunities are rare, most people work in factories and many get retired at the smallest illness they have. You cannot work if you're mentally ill.

The education system teaches you old stuff from the communist era. They just added new subjets and new books. But the system is the same.

Religion: 99% christian

∆Vietnam

∆Population: ≈97000000 people (high density population, concentrated in coasts and rivers, gets thinner further into mountainous areas)

Over half people still lives in rural areas (roughly 60000000 people)

∆Spiral dynamics:

Beige (<1%): hobos, tribal people, ect

Purple(≈4%): various tribes, shamans, that crazy market lady that keep praying in the middle of the road near my house, ect

Red(5%): thugs, drugs dealers, rural people, corupt cops, illegal wood cutters, poachers, ect

Blue(55%): teachers, parents, students, old people, monks, soldiers, some politicians, football watchers, homophobes, nationalists ect

Orange(30%): the youngsters, gamers, youtubers, pick-up artists, start ups, body builders, corporations, anti-communists, ect

Green (4%): lgbtq+ supporters/people, vegans (not because they want to go to heaven like the buddhists do), some rich people, progressive socialist, ect

Yellow, turquoise (<1%): barely emerging but there some notable figures like: Thich Nhat Anh, danny haiphong, some guys that commented on Leo's video, ect

∆Economic: many people have left poverty, are provided with nationally funded or simply donation housing, food, clothes, ect

Many small bussinesses are starting and growing

Possibility of corrupt corporatism in the future

Relatively low paying jobs but products are cheap

Religion: most religious people are buddhist, some are christians, barely any islamists. Atheism is on the rise.

∆Education: teachers utillize verbal abuse (most consider physical abuse to be necessary), discrimination against low performing students, punishment and reward, nationalistic view, segregation between good students and bad students, half-ass art classes (might as well remove them), teachers often have diverse beliefs, designed so you could score high and go into prestigous schools/colleges, high intensity studying despite of risking one's health, and other unpleasant things.

∆notable quote:

"Don't ask what your country has done for you, ask what you have done for your country"

"You have to do well in class so you can get a good job, get rich, buy a big house and car, get a wife start a family so you could take care of me when i'm old"

-mom/dad

"Stop being so selfish, don't you realize how much your parents have sacrifised so you could sit in this classroom ?"

-classmate

"If any of you want to learn, then please sit and be quiet, if you want to go out and play so your brain can get smaller and stupid, then please do, i won't judge." -chemistry teacher

"I hope God will smite and punish those who do not repect the school's curiculum" -my doki doki literature teacher

"It's our duty to uphold and accellerate the economic growth of this country, to promote science and education..."

-misquote from our curent president

P.s: it's lonely going on this journey all alone, would be great if any other brothers and sisters lurking in the shadow could reach out to me.

Originally from (North) Macedonia too! Though I mostly grew up and still live in Germany.

This is funny as I really didn't expect to stumble upon other people from our little balkan state! ? Pozrav

Australia, 25 million

Spiral Dynamics: Anywhere from Late Red/Early Blue to High Green, both mostly centered around a Late Blue/High Orange with some sprinkling of Green (and some small Yellow elements) in select areas.

Dominant cultural trends in 2020:

- Anglocentric nationalism as a result of increased migration / diversity. Anglo-Australia used to be closer to High Orange but has been feeling an ego backlash at changing demographic realities, so many are now dealing with an unhealthy Blue shadow. Fear of the growing power and influence of China and the weakening influence of the US is adding to this. Of course, it's not exclusively Anglo Australians who feel this way, and many Australians from different backgrounds share the same sentiments (especially if theyre at a Blue level of development), but its mostly centered on the "core" Anglo demographic.

- Strong progressivism influenced by US / EU progressivism centered in the major cities. A lot of Australians, especially the youth, and especially those in the major urban centers, are reacting against the Orange/Blue cultural dominance and are being pushed up into True Green, which triggers a lot of the Blue/Orange Australians. Having nearly a full decade of Orange/Blue governance by the Liberal Party is adding to this, which is a party that denies climate change and Green is mobalising as a response.

- Dominant Orange mindset: Despite the previous two trends, Australia is still mostly an Orange country. Most people, regardless if theyre conservative or liberal, wish to have a nice house by the beach full of designer furniture, most people value material status as something to strive towards, and since our country is so rich on the whole indulging in hedonism is seen as acceptable and even desirable. Growing inequality is making this harder to achieve for many Australians however, especially the young, which is pushing many up towards True Green, but overall people are still at Orange. Things are changing though.

Education: Like most things, this is being increasingly privatised and is being geared towards accommodating rich overseas students, so the quality is overall declining and people are finding it harder to find value in their education degrees, especially if they're not studying STEM, law or business.

Religion: Mostly secular, a few holdouts of Blue Christianity, as well as Blue Islam, Buddhism etc. as a result of migrant communities. Most people aren't religious at all, and in fact will find it weird if you show yourself to be overtly religious. People celebrate Christmas and Easter but these are more an excuse to eat lots of food and get together with family than any real religious celebration. There are some prominent Christians with influence though, including the Prime Minister who is a member of a prosperity-gospel evangelic Church (which ties into the unhealthy Blue backlash I mentioned before), but on the whole this country takes a rationalist and secular Orange stance to religion.
