Is alcohol really a bad thing?

50 posts in this topic

Hi, my question is, should I avoid alcohol my whole life. I'm 22 and i've drank around 50 times till now, it never appealed to me this drinking life let alone smoking cigarettes or weed, I simply never cared. But most people even open-minded ones, even my parents and they don't drink think that me not drinking at least at this age is odd. And there's been situations (parties or just specific people) that would almost make me rethink the whole thing. And most of the time is not persuasion per se, its just the vibe that kinda lures me into it. Sometimes I alomst feel bad, as if i'm missing someting that later in my life I can't experience not quite like when i'm in my twenties, but also i'm a sensible, romantic person and I can see how this can go south. I've seen what it does to people in the long run, even with moderate consumption, and they we're more grounded and logical minded then me and still they romanticized this substance and made it apart of their life.

I don't know, maybe i'm wrong or something, I don't need an excuse to drink or something like that just a new perspective on it and a feedback on how I think about it.

Thanks ??

All that fear of missing out of not drinking is cultural indoctrination and an illusion. You were literally programmed to believe that through movies, TV shows, advertisements, and other people bought into that as opposed to being an original idea.

Ask yourself: Are you striving to be an average person? Because thats what the average person does, drinks and parties a lot, destroys their body and shuts down their capacity for consciousness. If you have a drink here and there it isn't going to harm your body that much, but crossing the line of  sub-optimal liver health or even liver dysfunction takes a lot fewer drinks than people think and are led to believe.

If you have a desire to do it, then do it and learn for yourself which is ultimately the best teacher. But if you don't want to, don't let peer pressure to conform make you drink.

Yeah I wouldn’t recommend making drinking a daily thing or anything like that, if you’re young and want to have a drink when you’re out with your friends here and there don’t sweat it too much, I do, and I don’t overthink it.

I just have the rule to never drink in the house, it’s something Professor Nutt covers, alcohol is great for social events in moderation, if you prepare and have a hangover cure etc (you can get decent antioxidants pills and stuff) the problems come when every night you get home from work you’re having a beer and then a takeaway etc, it can spiral pretty quick, I’ve seen it with my friends.

So, just use alcohol like any other tool, to have fun when out socialising and enjoy yourself, there’s plenty of reading on what you can do before and after to minimise damage, and if it’s only 1 time a week or fortnight or month etc, I wouldn’t stress too much.

Thank you. This is what I think about it too. I understand the wavy feeling that you get especially if its accompanied by good music and good people, but I don't see it as something that i'll do on a constant basis or even occasionaly. It doesn't represent me.

I thought about it in this way too, but i just visualised myself getting too cozy with the substance and and use it too  frequently. I drank probably 30 somenthing times just by myself listening too music, and I enjoyed more I guess or it was just different, it was more contemplative mind state I savour it in a different way. But I find that I can't do more than two glasses of anything expept beer, but I don't like it at all. I get very very sleepy.

@Dragos I completely get you man I too have an addictive personality, hence why I just never allow myself to drink at home, and I don’t want to tbh, I just drink when out with friends for some fun, but haven’t for a few months now and am not bothered, if I never went out clubbing / to a pub with my friends, I’d never drink again I doubt, no need!

I would say find what’s right for you and go with it.

Some people can drink once and then forget about it for weeks or all week and drink again, whereas, for some it takes over their mind- just like for Brian Rose of London real, and if you’re like that don’t drink, it’s as simple as that.

That’s how I am with junk food and Porn so I just cut them out completely, most of us have things we just can’t use sensibly.

That wavy feeling and being a social lubricant with others who you might be kind of uncomfortable around otherwise does feel really good, no doubt. For me, what buffers me from drinking (I pretty much never drink, ever) is that I can acutely feel the negative after-effects from it, even if its just one or 2 drinks, and that alone makes it not worth it for me. Feeling such as lethargy/headache. Especially since drinking is an evening/night time thing, and doing it then negatively affects sleep quality. I'm a person who values the shit out of my sleep quality probably more than most people. But definitely some situations present themselves in life where I would indulge, and when it is one of those times I can feel it in my gut.

My drinking interfered in my life when I was younger. My last drink was in 1992 and I never missed it. There is so much more in life to do. Plus, alcohol reduces consciousness. If I’m at an event, like a concert, with people drinking and feeling loose, I may take a low dose psychedelic or edible cannabis to spice things up. Alcohol doesn’t resonate with me anymore.

It is said that drinking alcohol takes you into the state of lower consciousness than you normally are. So i am worried that even if i drink occasionally it might take me to the lower states of consciousness. I am really focused on my self development. In the past i have drank a lot and have really bad experiences and good ones too at that moment. And now i have sometimes have to face peer pressure and also want to drink socially but i am afraid  that it will be bad for me. I don't  know if i will drink next time or not and, if i drink,i wonder if it hampers my personal growth, and all the work i am doing for it will go into vain-not completely but may be negate some of the progress i have had till now.

@Saupahar Having a few beers will not ruin all of your work you have put in so far, if you want to drink socially, enjoy it.

If it becomes a problem, stop for a while, you don’t have to stop forever.

Just come up with a routine before and after to minimise hangover effects and get back to normal ASAP, and don’t get drunk all the time, no need to overthink it man.

All the time you spend overthinking stuff like this, you could be working on yourself.

Find the balance best for you, there is no one answer for everyone.

I never drink unless social people around are all drinking and that's the ritual.

for me alcohol is the lower consciousness drug you can ever done.

For anyone who drinks occasionally and wants to reduce the damage:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Morning-D-TOX-After-Drinking-Digestion/dp/B07F6J1DXV

I tried these based on a friends recommendation and they really worked, even at a less than recommended dose, the vitamins inside it seem very good, but of course do your own research and maybe there’s better ones out there!

I’ll be taking these when I go on holiday with friends (if possible) later this year, and they should help a lot. Aside from that before and after will include lots of fasting, organic food, green tea, sleep, exercise and Wim Hof!

of course the best way is not to drink, just giving a suggestion if anyone is going to :)

@LfcCharlie4 very friendly, I found the best one is drinking a lot of water to flush just after. I wouldn't bet on the stack in this very bottle, I watched what's in, and that's pretty basic thing that would at best give you a "fake hit". ( taurine + theanine )

but both would have some counter, I would advice against, go old water always do it, and a good night of sleep.

@GodDesireOnlyLove Yep, I agree always drink lots of water!

However, when I took these the hangover symptoms were basically over after an hour, that usually never happens after a night of drinking.

Ive only used them on 3 occasions and each time they were amazing, I will buy a bottle for myself and test!

They are also meant for before and after, and so far great results!

maybe I m not aware of some another dynamic at play, just saying how I feel about it.

@GodDesireOnlyLove Yeah that’s fair man, I’m not saying it 100% works, but I usually get some form of a hangover the majority of the next day, and I felt completely normal after a few hours!

There is absolutely no benefit to drinking alcohol whatsoever. A lot of people still believe that red wine is somehow healthy. This is tragic marketing implantation in the minds of the young who are trying to excuse their functional alcoholism. Alcohol is a neurotoxin and a carcinogen. It pulls nutrients from your body, it depletes glutathione and other antioxidants, it messes up with blood sugar balance, damages your arteries and hormonal balance.

Whatever problem anyone has they claim alcohol helps to "solve" they are deluding themselves and this will bite them in the ass one day.

@Michael569  Yep, I don't claim it's healthy or solving any issues whatsoever.

Simply, I occasionally drink when out with friends for fun.
