What to get from reading Timothy Leary Wikipedia article?

I read the article, but didn't get any of what leo wrote in his blog post other than psychedelics were rejected by conservatives and scientists.

What am missing here??

A huge problem with leary was that he told everyone to drop out of society. It doesn’t work that way in my opinion.

Also it scared a lot of people especially parents..

What I personally got from reading the article was the insight that old Tim was one crazy motherfucker and that a congenial dramatization of his life story would make for one HELL of a movie. Heh.
