How to deal with alienation during the Coronavirus epidemic?

7 posts in this topic

I haven't properly gone out unless it's strictly necessary in more than a month (firstly because I was feeling depressed but afterwards because of the epidemic). My city is not in quarantine yet but I think it's a matter of time, as areas nearby are. Since I live with my grandma I cannot afford to get exposed.

I feel like I'm so distant from real human interactions. But I've got to admit that it's not a new problem: I've been dealing with internet addiction for quite some time, except now it's on steroids because I've got nothing else to distract me.

What can I do to make the best out of the situation? I want to become a better person. I started a meditation habit, sorta, because it's the one thing I can do for sure. But I don't feel like it's enough. Heck, I'd like to start dating! But I wonder, what are the chances of meeting quality people on dating apps? Also it feels a bit like cheating because of how shitty my IRL people skills are, and because it could be fuel for my internet addiction. But I digress.

How do I deal with this need for human interaction during times like these? Anyone else having struggles because of the outbreak?

Let that boredom and the desire to run out purge you and unleash your inner demons. Embrace the boredom and learn to love it. Maybe this is what humanity needs to retrospect and to consider the consequences of our daily choices.

Most of all don't be stupid and if told to stay home, do so (within reason) this reduces the load on hospitals and the need for acute medical treatment.

Maybe the isolation is a blessing in disguise. Also since we are able to connect and interact with others through the Internet, we are not really alienated. True isolation is when we have zero human interaction. When you are completely alone with no one around and no way to communicate with others, is real isolation.

Interacting with people online is just another form of human interaction. Dive deeper into your meditation practice.

“Alienation” is one interpretation.

What is it that you want in your life which is more worthy of your time, and more inspiring than the internet?

In that same vein, what is it which you want to begin getting traction on? What is it which you are creating for this life, which all else is a relative distraction to?

You’re telling a story about yourself which does not feel good because it is not true. You can’t “become a better person”, you can educate yourself (google) on self judgement and understand it and it’s origin in your life, and in doing so you will be more emotionally aware, change the story you’re telling about yourself, have more confidence & be more authentic & at peace...all of which is attractive and will pair perfectly with dating.

Without recreating / repeating the beliefs & stories about yourself, which again, do not feel good because it’s not honest or true of you, there wouldn’t be such a strong belief in need. Wanting human interaction, such as dating, works very well for dating. It might seem counter intuitive to you currently, but people want to want and be wanted. Being “needed”, emotionally speaking, is a burden and people intuitively sense it. If it resonates with them, they don’t like how it feels, and project their own vulnerability and self beliefs, back onto other people, which you might call dis-traction. On both accounts, your life and dating, what you’re looking for, is at-traction.

The first step in attraction, is defining what it is you want to attract. Write down (dreamboard is best) everything you want. If you struggle with this, write down everything you know you don’t want, and then take a break, and later write the opposite of each thing you wrote down. That would reveal what you want, and it’ll feel good too...since it’s...what you want...which simply means....what feels good, to you.

@a e l i

Make a dream board (Search for "dream board" on the forum and read Nahm's thread), exercise, cold showers, Wim Hof, quit frequent masturbation and porn use, go on Badoo and chat up some singles near you since you cant IRL.

After the coronacrisis you should aim to make some friends. Be positive and persistent it will work itself out, it might help to get a social job like a waiter, or a job in sales.

What you ultimately want to do is to have goals that you authentically want (not relating to societal norms) and be pursuing them.

Look inside your soul, maybe you'll find gold there and get rich.
