Movie Recommendations

What are your favorite movies? (+ brief description or why you recommend them)

Movies That...

  • unleashed an existential crisis
  • made you laugh/cry
  • were thought-provoking / shattered your belief systems
  • helped you grow
  • can be described with "utter mindfuck"
  • you can remember to this day due to your amazement of them
  • need to be shared

My recommendations for you: (no particular order)

Upgraded (AI, Sci-Fi)

I am Mother (AI, Sci-Fi)

  • the two movies above are more than thought-provoking & mindfuck is guaranteed (Black Mirror Vibe)

Ready player one (Virtual Reality, Sci-Fi)

King Arthur Legend of the Sword (Fantasy)

Inception (Dreams)

  • all three above really motivated me to get back into lucid dreaming

Interstellar (Sci-Fi)

Wolf of Wallstreet (I guess comedy)

  • nowadays I don't enjoy these two movies as much as I used to, still funny & emotional

The Revenant (survival)

  • if you are a pussy watch this, definitely puts things in perspective

Parasite

  • no comment needed

Waking Life - my all time favorite

Earthlings - documentary - I saw it almost 10 years ago - turned vegetarian immediately after

The Martian - a good lesson on shifting focus

baraka (1992) and samsara (2011) super impressive pictures, like a symphony of life.

2001 A Space Odyssey … more cosmic "stuff".  Stanley Kubrick I think does a great job in non-verbal and more intuitive symbolism in this movie.  Lots of imagery and music and little dialogue.

Wooo! happy I saw this recommended already, but WAKING LIFE by Richard Linklater. This movie will focus soley on your mindfuck rather than a storyline. It's about lucid dreams and dialogues of philosophical concepts. Rotoscoped beautifully/trippy.

AI: Artificial Intelligence. (2001, Steven Spielberg). This is an absolute gem.

The Hurricane

@Nahm Thanks for this recommendation. I watched it last night. Powerful. For me, the main theme was love. That boys relationship with Rubin Carter was all about love, and all of them then moving down to where the prison was to support his court appeal was all about love as well.
