Notice the shift from the Obama era?

29 posts in this topic

Things have changed online and have become more right wing, in the Obama era you couldn't imagine that just saying "global warming is real" could cause hysteria or even death threads

Take a look at youtubers who have criticized Trump in 2016, now either trying to argue against Trump's opponents like Bernie or not saying anything

Right wing echo chambers have gotten bigger and more obnoxious, with people still not even questioning anything said in them, and """edgy""" teens or discord users aren't leaning left because it's (especially now) associated with stage green like Andrew Yang or high orange, which these people are not at so they integrate right wing talking points into their discord or ideology

Because Trump is president, it fuels conformism and makes it lean more towards the right, with this comes denying that people who are clearly alt-right are just centrists and saying people are too far left when they aren't

Teens (11-18 years olds) who are the majority commentators on platforms like Youtube and various forums like 4chan dont even understand what they are saying. First they call someone a libtard and then the same person goes full steam defending libertarianism.

I dont think that kids are becoming more right wing. I think they are more left wing than ever, they just think that left wing politics is only about communism, SJW, LBTQ and political correctness. They say that they are right wing because they think that being on the left means that you belong to one of the previously mentioned groups.

Kinda like how many atheists are actually agnostics when you question their belief for long enough, but agnostism isnt cool so they call themselves atheists

EDIT: To add to my "They are not right wing" theory: If I got a dollar for every time someone on my local 4chan website commented how they voted the nationalistic party but didnt know them to be so fucking stupid in every thread that discussed about scandals revolving around the nationalistic party, I'd be living in a mansion right now. I think they are voting for that certain party because they imagine themselves being right wing when in reality they are left leaning individuals who then wonder why the right wing party isnt supporting what they believe in individually.

The latest happened recently. Discussion about legalizing cannabis in Finland has been going on for few weeks and the nationalistic party voiced their opinion that they dont support this and there has been a lot of discussion on our local 4chan of why the nationalistic party is so stupid and old fashioned. There has been a lot of comments how they are going to switch from Perussuomalaiset(nationalistic party) to voting Vihreät(The greens, very progressive) because they finally realized how backward idiots Perussuomalaiset are. Lol ?

To the contrary, the rise of Trump has pushed America and Democrats much more left.

Obama was pretty centrist and things like Medicare For All, Green New Deal, and rejection of corporate money was unthinkable 5-10 years ago.

America is steadily moving left-er. Which is precisely what Trumpism is a reaction against. The core fuel behind Trumpism is that America is moving left and they cannot stand to admit that this is the correct direction to go, so they act like stubborn jackasses. The jackassery makes them feel morally righteous and avoid admitting deep flaws in their worldview.

It all revolves around not wanting to change one's worldview due to it supporting a fictitious identity.

Never forget, in the long-run things are always getting better, moving towards more consciousness, unity, and love. The evil which sprouts up along the way is part of the ulitmate flowering of Love.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

Sure, maybe they have just gotten more aggressive and loud because they're backlashing, like this guy

But I've seen waaay too many people be motivated to say Trump is "barely even a bad president at all" simply because he is president of the united states or completely stop talking about climate change or anything that could offend right wing echo chambers/conformists

If you are trying to be a discord edgelord, which people are trying to do to fit in, since many communities are very based on "conform to every idea or you're out of here", are you gonna be into stage green social democracy, minimum wage etc. or will it be easier to just spread repetitive alt right memes and call people snowflakes? It is obvious which one teenagers in 2019 will gravitate to

1. He very clearly stated, poor people are just lazy, but this isn't the case they could actually be working more than one job

2. Zero arguments for why "leftists are idiots" and he claims  that if you are young you're gonna be a leftist, for that see what I wrote above

3. Yes, the establishment right doesn't care about working people (and you should definitely know what you're getting into) but they'd benefit most from someone like Bernie or Yang being president

@roar

Citizens initiative regarding legalization of marijuana got passed few weeks ago, and it will be considered in the parlament in a few months. Our current politicians are really conservative when it comes to drugs so I wouldnt hold my breath on the law passing 9_9

@tenta

Are these memes really what drives the young audience to vote for nationalistic candidates when they grow up? Memes are just memes. Honk honk.

Although I was raised in a family without conservative values, I have a lot of respect for conservatives and conservativism.

I'm listening to you, @Leo Gura. I understand your intentions and solutions when it comes to having better societies.

What I would like you to do is to listen to conservative opinions.

Here are a few examples that explain why Western Civilization (a.k.a conservativism) had the most profound impact on humanity.

1. Freedom of speech. Trump is protecting the constitution; that's why he appointed highly respected conservative justices on the court.

2. The family value. It is a concept and a value promoted in the bible; it's the cornerstone of human progress in the Western world. Trump is protecting this value; he really does that.

3. Human rights. Only the Western world gave us human rights. It's a good thing that we have those rights; thanks to Western Civilization.

"All those conservative people Trump alike" are doing great things for humanity. They are not Nazis. They are not marching the Jews to the death camps. You walk among them and they smile and say "Hi!" to you.

For those who despise the Western world, I have a message. It's okay to have your own world view as long as your intentions are good, but don't fail to see the goodness of the Western world. We should keep and preserve everything that's good for mankind which clearly stems from the Western world.

Don't live with the impression that only you know what's good for the world just because you've studied a topic and now you think you have more wisdom than others. Everything good you see around you wasn't built in 80 years; it has much more wisdom (and years) behind it than your false wisdom impression that you believe you have.

We're not just talking about voting, we're talking about the overall shift

Memes do have an impact, but it's not just memes, it's the narrative and if you're trying to be edgy in a discord or conformist community you are much more likely to be right wing, right wing echo chambers that don't get questioned at all, unlike what was happening when Obama was president, do have influence

I think it's the same for Brazil. We're moving from Blue towards Orange here and, with Bolsonaro, we can clearly see a lot of resistance.

@The Don I don't blame you. I would have expected people working towards self actualization would have more of an open mind. Too much hatred towards conservatives has bred this attitude of only nazis and racists and such are conservative. Honestly I think a lot of people on both sides of the political debate are just stuck in a tribal mentality, just going with what they are told rather than truly examining issues and how to solve them. It's all liberals want to take everything from you and control everything you say and do and conservatives are all racist, xenophobic nazis. There are actually good sides and people on both of these sides if people would actually listen. Example: not everyone who advocates for border security is a racist and that's why they want to control the immigration flow into the country, and not everyone who advocates for Medicare for all is a soviet communist that wants the federal government taking everything. I have seen more open dialog though, albeit very slow growth. Echo chambers are still rampant on both sides, and will take time to break through. Hatred runs deep and will take generations to heal the wounds but I hope as more and more people take enlightenment and all life seriously these attitudes will fade away and people can start actually debating whether the capitalist, socialist, or other system will solve whatever particular issue. Everyone needs to step back and chill a bit and truly consider the opposing merits of a given debate, but until the left stops calling everyone on the right a nazi or whatever and the right stops calling the left snowflakes or whatever and they both start talking to each other this cycle will continue.

Come on kid. To even begin to argue against what you said would be an insult to one's intelligence.

Trump does not care about freedom of speech, family values, nor human rights.

Yes he does!

Freedom of Speech: "I'll say whatever I damn want!"

Family Values: That means Nepotism, right?

Human Rights: He certainly loves people on the Right.

:P

This is the arrogance from the left wing in our country that drives people to stay in their bubbles.

This will never help progress. Attacking people who think along different lines is a waste of resources and time. As one user put it earlier. Let go. Let go of your hatred for Trump. Everyone who is still in blue or orange thinking is just hearing it as hatred for them because they believe in the individual. Most people if you actually talk to them want the same end goal, some version of utopia for everyone. That utopia is not the same for everyone and with many different ways to get there. Green level needs to learn this, there has to be a place for the individual, collectivism, socialism, communism whatever label you want to put on it has its limits as well as capitalism and individualism. There is a balance and the more that balance is ignored with blind arrogance to ones own superior nature, and ones own "side" being so much better than we will stagnate and die. We are feeling those pains now, all this arrogance from the left's "we know what's best for you" to the rights "you don't know shit". It has to stop somewhere, someone at some point has to talk to the other.

We can all get along but it will take compromise and patience and a willingness to meet in the middle on some things to preserve the balance. America is the most charitable country per capita, we allow the highest number of legal immigrants into our country every year, our government does a lot of really good work for people, our people do a lot of really good things for people, and a lot of that comes from the good will of non spiritual religious people that want everyone to live better. And of course the opposite is true as well, we have some of the worst people on the planet as well, actual nazis, and such, and within all that there is room, stop the demonization of Republicans, stop the hatred of Trump, you don't have to hate him to disagree, you don't have to worship him to agree. No one is perfect, not Trump, not Obama, not anyone the Democrats will put up for the next cycle, not anyone the Republicans will put up after that, not you, not me, not a single collective ego. The hate has to stop.

People have proven before that we can do great deeds both good and bad, individually and collectively. We are divided right now on which path to take and the sides have collectively dug in their heels and are just playing petty games attacking. That's politics as usual, and believe it or not the rhetoric attacking the opposition is pretty tame today compared to earlier times.

We as responsible members of this planet have a duty to do what is best for everyone and everything, and sometimes that means losing the battle in a strategic retreat to win the war, rather than dying on the hill you claim to hold. All of this goes for both sides of the political debate here in America and everywhere. Right now talking down to the other side is just causing people to stay in echo chambers because the ones that are trying to find that middle ground are afraid to go elsewhere. See it all the time in left wing forums, people saying they refuse to even talk to a trump voter, or just block everyone until they only see their side of things repeated over and over. On right wing forums them bragging about trolling some random "libtard" or something. It's stupid. white supremacists and nazis, snowflakes and antifa. Look for the middle path, salvation lies within the balance of all things.
