15 posts in this topic

So I have been trying out NoFap and decided to reach 30 days, however I have relapsed a few times the ast weeks. I only make it to about a week more or less.

Has anyone compleated over 30 days tell me some tips on how to pull it off, what made things harder or easier?

Don't fantasize. Stop thinking about sex constantly (I know it sounds impossible but focus your attention on something else). Get busy, don't browse porn or NSFW content. Clear your mind, use a spreadsheet or a calendar and mark days.

There's an app called Days Since and it's good for any goals and routines. Remind your mind of the benefits such as reduced anxiety the longer you go, more confidence, more control over you mind, productivity, no brain fog etc. There are many videos on YouTube on this I recommend watching them whenever you feel like relapsing to get yourself inspired back again. I also heard good advice that if you have to relapse do it BUT meditate before :D

Meditate before... That's probably the best idea I have ever heard. :D

Start with a realistic goal. If you set it at a month, you're going to "relapse" within the next week. Then you'll feel guilty about it and it will make it worse. Think about how long you can easily go without, and make your goal one or two days more than that. This works with any goal.

You create an idea in your head of "I don't want to do this anymore, so I must immediately stop right this minute" which is not logical. You've been doing this how long, it will take a lot more time to change it!

So first, make a goal that is reasonable, and when you reach it it should bring a little empowerment.

Think about the benefits of it. Is it really something that is that amazing? You feel good for a little while and then it's gone and you do it over and over to chase that feeling? just contemplate over it for the reality of what it is. After a while you should think less of it and need it less.

Finally, nofap and no sexual activity in general will not actualize you faster. Sure, less will help, but the key is to have the control & balance. Work to gain will power and control. This means when you get an urge, you don't always need to act. It's when people become obsessed and chase pleasure, that they give up control. After gaining control and balance, you can experience the pleasure for what it is and you will need it less & appreciate the moment more. See what I'm getting at? The more you chase after the pleasure, the less pleasure you get. Doing this work will help you in all pleasure-seeking areas of your life.

So basically, the whole point of nofap is to gain will power, balance, and control. The goal isn't "no sex". start working to gain control over your impulses.

Edit: one more tip, every time you get the urge to watch porn, instead look up a subject that interests you such as psychology or quantum mechanics and take that time to read/learn something new. that should get rid of your sexual thoughts :P

In Toxic Shame, John Dradshaw talks mentions the fact that masturbation is used as a emotionnal relief and to numb yourself from feeling your emotions.

That's why so many people are addicted to it, they simply need it not to feel the bad emotion underneath. But that also means if you handle the emotionnal issue, for instance by letting go, the desire to masturbate will naturaly dissapear :)

Go watch Leo's latest video "Grasping The Illusory Nature Of Thought". Do what he calls "flattening out" the desire to fap. If you do this successfully that desire will seem ridiculous to you.

For real?

Real eyes, realize, real lies.

I successfully completed a 30 - day no fap challenge (hard mode) and the best advice I could give you is this:

Take out a paper and commit to 30 days. Decide on a punishment that happens when you relapse and chose a reward that you get when you complete the 30 days. I, personally, decided that if I would relapse, I would have to do bungee jumping from about 150m height. As I am really scared of big heights, I knew that I would complete those 30 days. I have to say this helped me tremendously during the hard times of these 30 days.

Another point is that you have to anticipate that it will be hard, harder than you think it is. Especially the last 5 days I was partly not even able to focus on normal homework as I was having fantasies....

Good luck my friend and try this one!

Watch Leo's video:Overcoming addiction.

Also, one more tip:"Focus on what you want instead of what you don't want",

I mean, you are focusing too much on the relapse thing. If you start focusing on quitting it for a number of reasons(because it is a waste of time,it will never make you fulfilled e.t.c.)then you will see the difference.

@Sri McDonald Trump Maharaj I've been using semen retention for around 6 months now. I've made it past 30 days a few times. Currently on 3 weeks and i'm aiming for 90 days this time. I'm at the stage where I feel I have a chance to make it this time. It's hard in the beginning because you're so curious about how the experience will be after you've held off for a few weeks-month etc. How strong the orgasm will be. How pumped your dick will be. If you're someone like me that were doing it on a near daily basis. These are things you just do not know, and of course we are curious creatures.  Once you've explored for a while and you know how it feels, i think then you're in a good position then to make a good go at doing it for the longer term. My meditation and mindfulness journey has really been running parallel with the semen retention journey and that's also helping really feel into how the release makes me feel. I don't feel shame or guilt, but I just feel wiped out, and lost so much of the lust for life in an instant. It takes me weeks to get back to the previous energetic self. Since you posted this quite some time ago, I hope you too have been on the same journey as me, and now you're seeing the same thing and getting better results.

cheers

@Sri McDonald Trump Maharaj I've just reached 6 months without relapse. For me, setting a goal was helpful. They say that it takes 90 days for brain to fully reboot, so initially that was my goal to reach. If I didn't know about that, I may have relapsed. After reaching that, I saw the benefits and set another goal to reach half a year, and now my goal is to reach 1 full year. It's frustrating at first, but after a while, you'll have the discipline to control yourself. What also helped me was when I had any doubts of it working, or any questions, I always went back to the subreddit and there's always going to be someone with the same issue, and they'll talk about how they overcame that obstacle, and it's always motivating to not give up. The reason I'm still doing it is because it has been a most positive impact on my life. Even if it could be all in the mind or placebo effect, the greatest lesson I take from it is self-control, which has allowed me to become the best version of me. Hope this helps! xD

Sex is boring. You can see it any time of day on the Discovery Channel.

Add that there's only 2 models of humans. Everybody looks more or less the same.

@Evilwave Heddy It was not necessarily the fap which was that amazing. It was more about the mindset you acquire when pushing through al the hardships you face during  these 30 days. Actually in my opinion, no fap is extremely overrated. However I have limited myself do to it like twice a week now...

But I can not stress the point enough, that you will attain a warrior - mindset if you push through those 30 days. If you can overcome your libido desires you can overcome any addiction or bad habit. Additionally my urges to fap have become less after the challenge.

My max was a little over 70 days. I stopped it because having wet dreams 2 nights in a row was just awful. Nofap is definitely overrated. But fapping multiple times a day is just a waste of time and energy. Also i've noticed that my lower back starts to hurt when I done it too much. I don't fap that much now or sometimes i quit while doing it. While watching porn I sometimes get the thought of a girl a like in my personal life and then i'm suddenly aware of what i'm watching on the screen. A fake woman that is photoshopped.
