Can weed Addiction make you depressed

28 posts in this topic

@ethanb121 little late to the party but here is some advice (from one weed smoker to another).

First is you’re smoking way too much and your tolerance is too high. You need to give yourself at minimum 8 hrs between smoking sessions and ideally only smoke once a day for mediation or some spiritual purpose. Also, never before bed bc your sleep is affected more than you know. If you’re not dreaming, you’re smoking too much.

Secondly, the amount you smoke per session is too high. Cut down the quantity of bud (by at least 75%) just a hit or two is more than enough.

Thirdly, how you smoke is a problem. Anything but a vaporizer is shit and hurting you. As a health professional and athlete I highly advise vaporizing your weed. Not only is it better for your body but is a much cleaner high and the comedown is smoother. It’s also much better and produces more clarity during mediation.

Lastly, when you make these changes it’s going to be very hard. Cravings will present and you will feel like you’re backsliding hard. You will become more depressed and anxious at first but I promise after a week or so your tolerance levels will acclimate and you will feel so much better than you did before.

Best way to test if you’re smoking too much is if you’re not dreaming. Second best is if time seems to drag on slower than usual. If either is happening you’re doing too much and it’s holding you back.

Or or you could just quit but if you’re anything like me you’ll go find other bad things to habits to put in its place (bad hard drugs/food/tv/alcohol/etc) which in my world that’s worse than weed.

Hit me up if you want to discuss more.

I happen to smoke alot of weed and as of late it doesnt seem to make me any happier in fact seems to just make me stupider , lazy. slightly more anxious sometimes ... destroyed my short term memory  also and sometimes it all that combined makes me alil more depressed kinda like im not there .. like in a trance from weed yet i still have the urge to smoke it if anyone can let me know thanks

@ethanb121 That’s what tends to happen with any compulsive habit. Notice how you’re smoking for a “positive” reason (feeling happy) and it probably worked when you started and maybe it still does now and then. At least that’s my experience with weed.

So what I would suggest working on is creating in your life that which you’re seeking through weed. Also, face the “negative” feelings that you’re possibly avoiding (boredom, loneliness, fear, etc.). Meditation is really good for this, since you learn to stay present with your feelings instead of running away from them. Keeping yourself busy is important, but choose things that feel good to you, don’t force yourself to do 2 hours of exercise everyday if it’s making you miserable. Not saying that exercise isn’t important, I actually suggest you get out of your comfort zone a bit, but IMO the emotional work is more important and you probably will naturally start taking care of yourself through healthier habits.

A vaporizer is a good idea, I never had the slightest craving with them and as someone mentioned before it’s not as unhealthy and the high is cleaner. I would also take his advice on just taking 1-3 hits and meditating instead of doing some unconscious activity like watching TV or playing videogames.

Good luck!

I've been though this personally and I could say yes it does make you depressed how come all these smoking weed rappers look dead inside? Just kidding but yes I had thoughts of ending it and I'm usually an optimistic I was addicted to weed a good 4 years.

@ethanb121 The question then would be: “What do I need sedation for?”

HINT: try not smoking when you feel the urge and see what comes up. Those sensations, emotions and thoughts are probably what you’re trying to “sedate away”.

@ethanb121 what you, and everyone else, is having a problem with here is dopamine. Dopamine is naturally produced in your brain, by your brain...it makes you feel really good when you do something that your subconscious mind likes. All of the following cause your brain to release a shitton of dopamine; sex, porn, gambling, stealing, winning, conquering, drugs etc.

What you must realise is that all of these things are grounded in the basis that you exist. If you ceased to existed while "your" body remained, who would be there to conquer? Or steal? Or win? With no ego, there is no good and evil, there just is...unbiasedness.

All suffering is based and grounded in the idea that you are a human reading these words right now. And so what to do? To *really* get rid of the problem. It can't be a matter of just adding the new belief that your not a human...it cannot be an artificial realization, you must see your self.

Meditate, do self enquiry, safely test and consume phycedelics starting with low dosages, follow your heart not your mind. The truth is, you need to vanish in the presence of God. Where is God? There is nowhere where God is not.

Vanish.
