  • Enough food and water
  • A warm place to sleep/rest
  • Comfortable clothes
  • Basic hygiene

That's all. But Life can also be more awesome than that.

Just be happy that you are alive on this amazing planet. Take advantage of it while you're here.

And be careful of the traps ;)

@LoveandPurpose

A better question to ask is what is really preventing me from being happy?

''What do I need to be happy?''- this question already assumes that there is a cute golden goose somewhere and we have to find that to be happy(which we aren't right now)

Not this...

PLEASE...Not this...''

You also need a good job. If you had a terrible job to maintain all that, you can easily become unhappy.

Leo Gura has a good job.

Yes, I forgot to mention that. But by "good job" I'd mean doing something that makes me feel intellectually challenged. Your definition of "good job" might be different, I don't know.

Willingness is the only thing you need to be happy.

Of course you need to be alive as a human being so yes above things like food, water and shelter is needed for that but besides that, only if you are willing to be happy you will be happy :)

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.

meditate for an hour straight and come back and notice you are happy. Happiness is full acceptance of the present moment regardless of what it is.

Do you want to improve the world?
I don't think it can be done.

The world is sacred.
It can't be improved.
If you tamper with it, you'll ruin it.
If you treat it like an object, you'll lose it.

There is a time for being ahead,
a time for being behind;
a time for being in motion,
a time for being at rest;
a time for being vigorous,
a time for being exhausted;
a time for being safe,
a time for being in danger.

The Master sees things as they are,
without trying to control them.
She lets them go their own way,
and resides at the center of the circle.

Tao te Ching - chapter 29

Be happy in every circumstance. Accept everything, be everything, enjoy everything!

All it takes is true spirituality

Besides a healthy body to allow for that, it's all about acceptance and how you choose to feel inside

My favourite posts on this topic. I would add to acceptance that going to sleep at night not fearing tomorrow is happiness for me.

@LoveandPurpose

It's a tricky question. Because once you think of something as a requirement for happiness, you set up a condition. And once you set up a condition, you won't be truly happy.

The trick is to drop all conditions, including the latter. That's how happiness works.

By happiness here, I mean peace of mind. Not necessarily some ecstatic state.

Are you talking about the minimum requirements for staying alive? Because in my experience, happiness is not dependent on any of them. I once felt ecstasy merely from standing in the cold and rain for 7 hours straight, it was awesome! Of course, acceptance implied.

I would like to add that the only requirement for happiness is good luck.

If you're happy, then that's just because you're lucky. Nothing more. Because you can't force happiness.

This is a weird answer. Luck is karma and karma is action.

Heres what you sparked though,

What we really need to be happy is to learn how to love ourselves, that’s it but it can be one hell of a process, depending on the circumstances

@DrewNows

That's the ultimate truth regarding happiness.

Perhaps "luck" is not the right word. Maybe I should have used the word "bless".

If you want happiness, stop searching for it. You're already out of luck!

A complete surrender to what is so, what is being, is happiness
