Weed On Weekends

40 posts in this topic

Hey, have a nice day.

I like doing it on weekends, alone to enjoy some good music or Watch a movie.

I would like to know if this could effect my consciousness practices . ( I meditate everyday , read 1 book per mouth , just started kriya Yoga ). I am trying to improve my self-confidence as well, being more myself and accepting me. I used to be a very shy person.

To be honest this has been a habit to me lately. I'm not addict to it, just enjoy it.

Should i Drop this ?

@AudibleLocket You can judge the tree by the fruit on it.

If it brings you enjoyment and you dont see any negative effects, how can someone say it is "bad" other than just bias?

If you are consuming during times when you should be doing something else or consuming too often, then it might be an issue.

Ive been smoking every evening after dinner for years and I spend that time contemplating my business, personal and spiritual life. Its been very good for my evolution personally.

@UDT  21 . I'm working at my family business right now, while building the instrastructures for my life purpose, which is playing drums. This is the thing i love doing, devoting hours of hard work to become a master. At least 1 hour a day.

Im also in the process of finishing college.

I live in the South of Brazil by the way, very closed minded people down here. The war on drugs is still very going on.

@AudibleLocket weed makes the mind loose. spiritual practices are meant to make the mind sharp. i don't know what you're doing.

@Matt8800  Thank's bro, it is just that sometimes, when i'm in a bad day, i just put all the blame of my problems on it. My monkey mind keeps saiyng

" Look how it is bad for you, your lazy dumbass" . But me too find it good to take a look at my life from a diferent perspective.

@AudibleLocket here's a guideline that has been working greatly for me: happiness is finding your way to contentment with less.

"less" means that you don't depend on social status, material possessions, drugs, junk food, sex etc to experience a high quality life. not depending does not mean that it's prohibitive... it just means that your emotional state is free of such attachments.

this is why we practice zazen. if you manage to find your way to happiness with just sitting, it means that you're in great shape. this is impossible with a loose/distracted mind and this is also the reason behind the fact that i quit porn, gaming, alcohol and weed.

This sentences tell me that you are becoming addicted.

Weed addiction is the worst addiction in the sense that you don't notice it being addictive and you don't notice it fucking up your life.

I smoke at least 1 gram per day, and i started just like you: just one little joint on the weekends....

@AudibleLocket It’s context dependent. Weed can be beneficial in certain contexts, harmful in certain contexts. It depends on the situation and person.

For me, weed can be a helpful tool to relax the mind-body for certain insights and spiritual practices. For example, I’ve found weed + yin yoga is a great combination for me. Yet I’ve also found weed to be highly habit forming and my mind-body may desire it a bit too much, especially when the mind-body is feeling uncomfortable and wants to be in a better space.

For example, I went to go on a nature hike last week. I was feeling a bit uncomfortable and disconnected to nature. I wanted to relax and feel at One with Nature. There was a desire to smoke some weed and get into that space. That’s fine on occasion, yet what happens is that the mind-body becomes conditioned. Sober becomes uncomfortable and stoned becomes comfortable. If that pattern keeps getting reinforced, dependency arises.

That’s just me. Other mind-body’s have different relationships to substances. Observe your relationship with weed and reality. Get in touch with your body snd listen to what your body is trying to communicate to you. Your body may be saying you are in a good rhythm, flow with it. Or it may be saying you need to teak things a bit. Only use weed in certain situations, times, cut back etc. Your body is a wise sage.

Totally agree. If you let the addiction consume you, everything becomes boring, life becomes grey without it. My goal is to limit the use to special situations only.

Ok

Seems weed on the weekend is fine for you.

Don't do it daily, get the discipline to leave it at the weekends, no exceptions. That's important, it's easy to fall into he every evening trap.

Use it to contemplate or relax or to see the beauty in music and nature and get inspired.

CBD has anti inflammatory properties, that can help your soreness from practicing a lot.

Also, listen:

Weed has been shown to inhibit testosterone production, so keep that in mind. Don't do it daily. Stay sharp.

By the way playing drums makes a not so solid "life purpose", what's your gift to the world?

@UDT

Share my music with the world, make people feel a little bit better when they hear me play.

Nowadays I play in two bands, one of them we are recording a disc. If you want to give it a listen I will be gratefull.

It's in Portuguese by the way.

I think of the future to live in another country, and live as a musician.

I started everything again, aside no porn. ( alcohol is very very rare and in few quantity, only in a certain setting )

but in the meantime, it's just "days on", where I'll took whatever I put my hands on, being fully in the moment ( concert for instance )

( but still I'll be fucked up conscious ); & I m still very interested in drugs effect on body/consciousness for scientific purpose ( of course haha ).

Raver in the soul.

but in the meantime, I don't need a drug to enjoy something, BUT "why would I not need them neither ?", tools are greats. Addiction can be evil, but you can be addicted to improve yourself, is that terrible ? > why would I need to improve for though ?

I don't need alcohol or drug to enjoy my time, but I choose to follow the flow, even if I fall into an addictive pattern with drugs, then it would be a work to be on.

I think addiction is not something we find only in substance, just see how we are all fucking addicted to making connection with psychopatic weirdo on a forum, why are you there for more than 10 min a day. or we don't have the same definition of addiction, that is fair.

I m addicted to do things.

I just live my fucking instinct based upon what is the good life to me.

Addiction is wrong from a certain perspective & context , dogmatism about avoiding addiction, easy path, I always say, don't avoid a fight, just take it, and win it.

I took a full month on weed recently, years ago, I would tell story on how I needed weed, now I just don't give a fuck, a bit of chill when the body rework itself and that's done. I don't cling to a need for weed, but in the meantime, I appreciate smoking, that's probably the lesser thing that will kill me in this life.

Yes self improvement addiction can be damaging and leading you off the path.

Because you might not be able to let life pass, face your decay, let go off things, accept that you have limits, that someone I better at something than you, no chance of catching up.

As for porn, I think porn is bad consumed a lot. However, releasing tension is natural, those no fap people get unhealthy. It's balance, it's that simple. Balance your life.

I remember even my old car mechanic telling me that no extreme point of view can be true, truth is found in the middle, while you balance your soul in peace with reality (he framed it differently but same concept)

Do a 30-day challenge on it and see if you can make it through that first.  Nice avatar by the way.  Great album.  Actually, do a 7-day challenge first and see if you can make it through that.

My journey is to be happier within myself without the use of any substance I could become addicted to, abuse, or otherwise develop an unhealthy dependence on. I have a history of doing this with alcohol, cannabis, tranquilisers and sleeping pills. They all became detrimental to many areas of my life and beneficial to no areas of my life, although at the time I thought they were beneficial in temporarily reducing fear, and managing insomnia. The cannabis was actually many years ago.

I'm 8 months free of all the above and I'm beginning to feel natural "highs" and natural levels of peace of mind that I never thought possible WITHOUT the use of the above.

It was a real shock to see so much behaviour being justified and supported on this forum around what I would term getting a drug-induced, artificial "high", all be it under the term psychedelics mostly.

However, I'm also here to learn how be more openminded, less judgmental, and have more humility. It's none of my business if forum members want to use substances to help facilitate their goals and insight. For all I know, they might be the ones making great progress whilst I trudge along slowly and unspectacularly toward my goals (if I ever get there at all).

My journey, experiences and willingness to experiment is for me, and everyone else can do as they please.

Whatever you decide, I wish you well.

@Matt8800 Just because you believe something brings you enjoyment and you're not aware of any negative effects doesn't mean that it's something you should necessarily carry on doing. Girls that "love" shopping and makeup and rant about not wearing it for boys or for anyone (even though they do) would all say that they enjoy doing it, and it doesn't cause them any harm, when it does. Same goes for partying, sure it can be fun in the moment, but its something people should work on not doing.

Personally I would ask yourself if you're doing this as a recreational activity, or if you're using it to benefit your personal growth, and just be honest with yourself. If you really feel like you're using it to help with personal growth, ask yourself if you really  need the weed to do that. I think all people really need is silence with no distractions, although I always sort of contemplate and make mental journal entries in my head when I'm walking my dog and I'm in a state of just being.

Honestly I don't doubt that you smoking weed is hindering you or distracting you if you're reading a book a month and meditating every day. I'd put things like food, porn and sex, drinking, gossip as things I'd work on before working on stopping smoking weed.

Hope this helps:)
