We are running away from awakening

12 posts in this topic

I notice that every time awakening is 'coming', simultaneously sense of horror and 'strangeness' and smthing like sense of huge responsibility arises. And then I quickly run away from awakening.

I guess in order to awaken one need to become defenceless or to be unable to run away from awakening.

Coz there is always place for a manoeuvre to escape and continue to sleep.

The question is can there be any solution for that? Can we do something to become defence-less in front of eternity?

Any suggestions?

Shit will happen, then when you'll be tired to struggle about it, you'll let go.

When you've let go of all the shit, then you'll have to let go of the core of the shit, which is you.

Same process, when you'll be tired of the shit, you'll let it go.

You can't become a banana though,

Sorry :(

The ego is exposed by awakening so it will conjure up anything and everything it can to discourage and distract us from being attentive to presence.

@Monkey-man just happen to see this post and man that is such a good question.

But I think like Shin said you just to have to kind of wait for your ego to cycle through to a phase where it has its guard down.

That's also why it is said that enlightenment happens when it wants to.

But that's why Leo likes 5-MEO so much, it supposedly just breaks down the ego's defenses seamlessly.

@Monkey-man

Yes, there are things you can do. It’s not so much ‘becoming defenseless & being unable to run away’, but more realizing we don’t need to employ defenses, and we don’t need to run away.

Take a few minutes or so each day to understand the defenses. Understand how we “maneuver”, and what it actually is we’re “escaping” from. Just 15 minutes a day. That will take the ‘huge responsibility’ feeling out of it. Slow & steady wins the race. Overtime what we have been doing unconsciously is done consciously. Don’t beat up on yourself when you become more conscious of these things. That’s progress, though it may not feel like it initially. It gets difficult, then it gets easier & easier.

https://www.simplypsychology.org/defense-mechanisms.html

Think if you lived next to a large construction site that was very very loud. Sudden very loud noises. The first day, you’d be caught off guard and have an overwhelmed response. Within a few days though, you’d have no response to the loud sounds, because you would have the understanding that they are sound of the construction site. A point would come where you wouldn’t even be thinking about the loud noises. Same with the defenses. When we aren’t aware of what we’re doing (the mechanisms) things seem “loud”, overwhelming, and we internalize & identify only because we don’t understand.

When you get overwhelmed (“strangeness & sense of horror”), breath deeply and slowly from your stomach, and just relax for a few minutes. Go for a walk if possible.  Then write about it on paper, try to be articulate about the sensations in your body. Expressing in this way, along with seeing what is being written, will increase emotional intelligence / understanding of sensations.

Give that a while, then start spending 15 minutes or so a day understanding the emotional scale. There are many models, but they are mostly similar.

Without the defensive mechanisms at play, there is more patience. You can work more slowly. From having done the writing down & articulating of emotions, you will have more clarity on what emotion you are experiencing. Use that to isolate approximately what emotion you’re feeling, and just relax and ‘feel for’ the next higher emotion. Express that next higher emotion, verbally, on paper, etc. (If you’re experiencing anger for example, visualize or express revenge...but don’t actually go throw a brick through someone’s window or anything.)

Hope that’s helpful. Been there. Not fun.

@Monkey-man I wonder if this term awaken(ing) is a new age word? Because the new age movement seems to have been spawned in part by the human potential movement in the 60s and I think a lot of erroneous beliefs came from eastern spirituality being transferred to the west en mass and we mixed them up, confused a lot of eastern and western concepts. Which is what you get today's spirituality.

Awake? What is awake? There is a part of us that is perpetually awake because it's nature is wakefulness.

What the hell is it that is the awake part of our mind? Everyone has this pure, unadulterated wakefulness, so why all this work to "realize" or awaken? Surely all that is required is a simple cognitive shift from being the body to being the wakefulness?

When that happens it's crystal clear that wakefulness never actually became identified with the body anyway. It never became conditioned by objects.

The next step is to become conscious if this wakefulness is different in others? Is it the same wakefulness? Is there two or more types of wakefulness?

No. Of course not. Wakefulness is just that.

So as wakefulness are you alone?

Now that's a realization that everyone can have no matter what their conditioning and no matter what the state of their ego.
