Meditation with music?

4 posts in this topic

I am currently studying for a test that I have later in the month and stumbled upon one of those healing video/binural beats music videos. Listening to it seems to take me to a peaceful place.

Do you think this could be beneficial to my medidation practises?

Or could it act as another distraction?

In my experience, binural beats can elicit interesting states of consciousness and calm the mind but are not useful for developing insight into reality. It depends on your aim in meditation. Is it beneficial for cultivating mindfulness or spiritual insight? I would say no.

yeah probs

Hark ye yet again — the little lower layer. All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event — in the living act, the undoubted deed — there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask! How can the prisoner reach outside except by thrusting through the wall? To me, the white whale is that wall, shoved near to me. Sometimes I think there's naught beyond. But 'tis enough.

@Maya_0 I would say cultivating mindfulness would be my aim at this moment.
