Travelling to India

14 posts in this topic

Hey everyone,

I plan on going for two weeks to India in February. Therefore I wanted to know if you can give advice for things that I can do there that could help me spiritually.

For example I think about joining the ashram of Sadhguru for a few days.

Shaktipat might also be interesting. And is Goa really that bad nowadays?

Love,

Solvinden

If you don’t come back with rolls Royce’s and the eyes of an owl that can stare into someones soul, you will have wasted your time :P

Thanks for the input!

@cirkussmile What is so special about Tiruvanamalai ? Wikipedia didn't tell me much.

@Sahil Pandit I haven't decided yet where and when I will fly exactly. Like I said I will stay for two weeks.

 @kieranperez Haha, I will try my best!:P

just go on picture search and i guess it’s partially selfexplaining. guess it has something to do with the temples there...

for me if i would travel around in india now i would want to see the matrimandir in auroville. but i like architecture. (for india they are close by each other, so you could maybe do both)

Warning, the whole country is a shithole.  And the people are always trying to play angle on you and each other anytime money changes hands.  That being said, there are interesting experiences:

- You can go watch them burn bodies from all over the countryside at Varanasi.  Or even volunteer if youre feeling ballsy.

- You can do a 10 day Vipassana, but you have to sign up in advance.  Just Google Vipassana retreats

- Rishikesh Is the yoga capital of the world and meat is actually illegal in the city

- Dharemsala is the 'de facto' capital of Tibet and home of the Dali Lama.  It's a great place to go to cool off in the mountains, and I find the food to be a lot healthier than what the Hindis eat.

Warning No. 2 - The bakeries are delicious

Warning No. 3 - The horns are literally cranked 3 times louder than they are in other countries.  The noise pollution from stressed out aggressive drivers will bring lots of pain to your ears.

Warning No. 4 - You may realize that excessive meditation is a waste of time and you'll be much more fulfilled by surfing in Sri Lanka or climbing Mount Everest with other backpackers.  Excessive meditation can fuck up your social skills and lead to depression as you neglect your human nature.

What do you mean with "help me with spirituality"?

If you want to learn about yoga and meditation go to Rishikesh. Be aware - today there are thousands of yoga schools and so called ashrams that just want your money. It's hard to find the perls. If you are serious about connecting with your higher Self send me a PM. I found a true himalayan yog teacher who was a disciple of Swami Rama and he will transform your whole life - a no bullshit guru.

@Salvijus Yeah I did the 200 hour ytt last month. In conclusion it was a good experience because I learned alot about asanas, yoga philosophy, alignement and so on. But it was also very commercialised and the teachers were rather young and inexperienced. Also the whole group dynamic and instagram culture by the other students was rather annoying for me because I'm searching for true spirituallity.

Now I'm blessed to have found a real original teacher - a true yogi who was able to tranform me within 3 weeks of practice. Never in my life I made such a drastic change for the better in all aspects of life- physically, mentally and spiritually. And I will go on with the training for 2 more months. So if anyone is interested to check him out just write me. He has no advertisement. He can also prepare you for a Kriya Sadhana.

Wow. That's amazing. :)

Happy for you.

Honestly when I saw that intro video about that Yoga school you mentioned. My first impression was. "What kind of wacky teacher is this"

But this one you're talking about sounds really nice. Sounds like you found something authentic :)

Liaten forum: True Yoga is always life changing. And you can't learn it books or from stupid people. @Mirror of Confusion is your evidence :D

@Salvijus Yes authentic is the right word. He lived in caves and had several gurus that teached him the vedic yoga life. If you want to know more about the origin of his teaching check out the book: Swami Rama - living with the himalayan masters.

I also realized that my body was not at all ready to practice Kriya yoga on my own. My spine is quite deformed and it has to be fixed first.

Haha :D yes, yes, this is common now. I see people can't even sit in cross-legged posture comfortably and they talk about how they want to do most potent kundalini kriya or open their third eye or have mystical experience or smth :D
