^^"a brain area often associated with reward and pleasure, the nucleus accumbens, is smaller in people who spend more time checking Facebook posts on their smartphones."

...so im guessing that a lot of the people wasting their time all day checking/blabbing on this forum have a small nucleus accumbens :P

@moon777light Probably, if the motivation for being on the forum is for attention (reward), but if someone's using the forum to learn and grow the reward response wouldn't be the same as with attention seeking. Jealousy is another common side effect of social media, hopefully that's not the case on this forum too! :D

@katykat of course :D sadly, there are only a handful that use this forum correctly/as a way to learn. Most here A lot here come just to waste time, i mean the "no video???" thread is already 10 pages long!

People think just because this place talks about more intelligent topics than your standard social media page, that its exempt from creating an addiction.

"Their newly published paper demonstrates that the playing of action video games – the sort of fast-paced, 3D shoot-em-up beloved of doomsayers in the media – confirms what other studies have revealed, that players show improved performance in perception, attention, and cognition."

"The results confirmed previous findings—that there were differences in the brain structure of video gamers, and that by playing video games, there was a “direct link between video gaming and a volumetric brain increase.”

The kingdom of heaven is within.

Hark ye yet again — the little lower layer. All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event — in the living act, the undoubted deed — there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask! How can the prisoner reach outside except by thrusting through the wall? To me, the white whale is that wall, shoved near to me. Sometimes I think there's naught beyond. But 'tis enough.

@lmfao THANK YOU!!

the hardest part is trying to monitor yourself on internet time. Like i tell myself "ok ill only be 2 hours max" and then slowly i forget that i just end up endlessly scrolling. I cant even read normally anymore. Like i click on an article and i dont even have enough attention span to read through the entire article. Same with youtube video, i always skip the first bit and try to find the most useful stuff and i get pissed when i cant. Its like an addiction to knowledge but in the most unhealthy way.

don’t trust a study you didn’t fake yourself!

what does it anyways say? ok and then if you hold a gun in your hand it shows you even have a fast pull the trigger time don’t even need to think anymore. love you ♥️ peace.

by the way - any suggestion on how to grow the nucleus accumbens? ah - yes the exploring rat! sorry didn’t read the whole article - it’s rather good though!

Edited by now is forever
