The feeling of 'me'

62 posts in this topic

During self inquiry I was focusing on the rock solid feeling of 'me'This feeling is where 'I' ultimately reside. Behind the eye's somewhere.

I noticed what makes me feel like it's 'me' is the feeling of my lips and cheeks. But it's also a very stubborn type of feeling. I continued to question, "So 'I' am a feeling?" I moved my lips slightly and questioned "So am I my lips?" As thoughts arose I noticed they reside (again another feeling) somewhere at the top of my head, so I questioned (as I brought the feeling of 'me' back) "Is the feeling of 'me' experiencing the thoughts?". This went on for some time until the feeling of 'me' dissolved and 'I' seemed to go to a place of completely nowhere. There was nothing, forever.

Should I continue this form of self inquiry or am I deluding oneself?

What you are experiencing is the "I AM". nisargadatta talks about that.

However the I AM is still an object in the mind, instead of the I AM you can be aware of pure objectless awareness by zooming away from the I AM.

@Blissout I understand that blissout, I get I'm experiencing the 'me' but I am using that feeling to self inquire further. By questioning the I AM feeling.

It's a good start :) But if you want a proper advise look for a real master, don't go to the forum on such subtle matters :D

Rupert Spira lives near you, no excuses ?

I wonder, can you still inquire when you're experiencing I am ?

Didn't happen for a while to me, but I remember that time, space and mind wasn't there anymore.

It didn't feel that experiencing something else than I Am was possible, because there was just I Am, there was nothing that could want something else/more when it happened.

Nahm shared this with me a good while back @Shin  and I've used it ever since https://sites.google.com/site/psychospiritualtools/Home/meditation-practices/self-inquiry

You told me it would be near impossible to get hold of him ? ?

I forgot to mention, I just meditate and it happens.

Almost all the time I If meditate for more than 45 minutes.

Yes probably, but it's your only choice, unless you get lucky and meet some other teacher along the way.

According to nisargadatta you stay on the I am until it dissolves into the real I.

Some people can bypass that altogether. It's a shortcut.

Now I know why I have so much resistance to meditate more than 45 minutes in one go ?

Tricky the mind is ?

@Charlotte Reading your post I too was reminded of the words of Nisargadatta "Stay in the "I AM" and in doing so you will trancend it".

Sounds like your heading in the right direction here.:)

@Shin totes ?

(totally)

What you experience is void in the sense there is absolutely nothing, not even darkness or light, no physical sensations or sound, but just your presence right ?

Nisargadatta meditated on the I am for 3 years until liberation came for him. Many people seem to miss this fact.
