@kieranperez yeah.... most of the bible is but you have to read it with the right contextualization.  Try googling for websites or blogs that delve into the allegorical interpretation of the bible, instead of the literal, which is what most religions are trapped in.

Eckhart Tolle presents a lot of Bible quotes in a non-dual interpretation in some of his books - definitely made me realize that there was more Truth in religions than I used to give them credit for.

You see, the reason you want to be better, is the reason why you aren’t. Shall I put it like that?

We aren't better, because we want to be.

@kieranperez I remember hearing Alan Watts and maybe Jed Mckenna talk about this. One message you can take away from the Adam and Eve story is that once humans developed the ability to be self conscious and think about the future they fell from their naturally high consciousness state. Before self conciousness and the ability to recognise our place as individuals in the world, we automatically had no resistance to anything we experienced.

Hark ye yet again — the little lower layer. All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event — in the living act, the undoubted deed — there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask! How can the prisoner reach outside except by thrusting through the wall? To me, the white whale is that wall, shoved near to me. Sometimes I think there's naught beyond. But 'tis enough.

Totally agree! The more I've gotten into spirituality the more I've dissolved the modern meaning of religion and been able to see the deep truths that lie beneath.

Assuming Jesus was even a real historical character, which a lot of scholars in religious studies and history would suggest the stark possibility that he was merely and only and spiritual archetype and not a historical person.

Agree in the anaology though.

Oh yeah!

My experience with awakening was seeing the truth of god through the bible, while being an atheist i quit on the book hahaha.

Later it hit me hard.

It helped a very great deal with my first nights of the soul, having a theology degree and knowing almost any verse in the book.

Made sense the bible, but is tricky, the key is going past the stories (the majority are fiction), an upside down or negative view is how you interpret the bible.

DUDE!

Its so funny that you mentioned it.

Because I came up with this concept on my own thinking 2 days ago. Leo has cleared up many biblical stories for me and so I thought about Adam and Eve and it just clicked. Singular God  -> 2 humans

Then I searched finding an article explaining it.

and now here you are saying the same thing.

I spent years arguing against the bible until I suddenly understood it from a different point of view

It is about non-duality and also about how human beings work in general... probably many other things too.

When Adam and Eve were in the garden it was paradise because they were blind and innocent. Then, the snake tempted them with "knowledge" in the form of the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Eve (symbolizing the material world as the feminine principle is about Earthliness) was tempted by the snake (also an Earthly symbol because of its proximity to the ground) to eat the fruit (also feminine as the ovaries of the plant are the fruits). Then she tempted Adam (representing the spiritual nature of man, as the masculine principle is all about the non-material... so idealism, spirituality, etc.).

So, because they both ate of the fruit, they were both cast out of paradise and sent to roam the Earth and suffer because they no longer have innocence. They lost the access to the garden of Eden (heaven on Earth... a perfect representation of Yin and Yang in its natural flow), and Earth became a lowly place bereft of God and the spiritual. They were no longer able to recognize that matter is pregnant with spirit.

The snake also lost its limbs in punishment making it even more Earthly... thus suffering more.

Just like our knowledge of how things work, make us feel like our material existence is somehow non-spiritual. And we feel a sense of disconnect as though the mundane world is other than heaven and paradise. We feel like we're just walking meat robots that will die and be forgotten for no purpose, and that the world is cruel. So, the world and Earthly and feminine are suffering for us... instead of a garden of paradise which is the reality beyond our intellectual knowledge.
