help with negative thinking

9 posts in this topic

earlier this year I was completely caught up in negative thinking

I've made a lot of progress by just refusing to get caught up (I still get caught up a lot but I see what I'm doing now and eventually I can get back out of it)

what I do is just switch to another thought like baking pies or something

my negative thoughts are almost always around my abusive childhood

I want to let that go now

I want to stop those types of thoughts from arising altogether

is it possible?

thank you!

The more tou try to stop thoughts the more resitance you create. Switching thoughts doesn’t help either because it doesn’t adress the root cause of the problem.

The root cause is that you have to accept everything, including thoughts about childhood or thoughts you don’t like.

I can’t help you with this but the good news is: You can!

Start a daily meditation practice and start to observe thoughts and emotions even if you don’t like them.

Can we see why these negative thoughts occur?

Why they are "negative"?

What are the stories/beliefs we tell ourselves surrounding these thoughts?

Who is this "i" thinking about controlling thoughts?

Simply to be with these thoughts and feelings

They can be there, but why do they have to be ours?

To end psychological time is to be here now; to see what is actual

We are not Ramana Maharishi. This is a tough question to answer. Many people (including myself) don’t really have a strong sense of ‘I’.

"Not believing your own thoughts, you’re free from the primal desire: the thought that reality should be different than it is. You realise the wordless, the unthinkable. You understand that any mystery is only what you yourself have created. In fact, there’s no mystery. Everything is as clear as day. It’s simple, because there really isn’t anything. There’s only the story appearing now. And not even that.” — Byron Katie

@isabel

Could it be that those thoughts want to redirect your attention to a part of yourself that requires healing? If so, why don’t you take the invitation?
