*Big question* "Why does 'becoming aware' of things make those things easier to handl

19 posts in this topic

I mean think about it, what is actually happening when you become aware of, say, an addiction for example, to make it easier to overcome. I find that any problems I have start to decrease when I become aware of them and I have no idea why?

Does anyone actually know why awareness helps so much? (Include examples and analogies if possible.)

Big question, sounds like a question for BIG Guru Balls.:)

Why would anyone want to be aware of something that they currently are not aware of?
Because there is something affecting them and/or their life in a certain way they can't,or don't understand. If that something comes into awareness it exposes, brings clarity to the reason for why things aren't going the way they wanted or expected. Usually, it is a repetitive action consistently playing out and causing the problem, but isn't understood why. If brought into awareness, they can then see what is needed to change, drop or alter in order to no longer be a prisoner to making the same mistakes that are causing their undo suffering.

Or something like that. :S

B-c otherwise you're doing it mindlessly like a mindless robot. Repeating the same old patterns unconsciously. Take someone who is addicted to nicotine for instance. They may light a cigarette and smoke it without realizing they smoked another and another just out of mindless habit. Then before they realize it the whole pack is gone. Most times they will think to themselves "Wow, did I smoke that whole pack already?" Only when one becomes consciously aware of theses patterns than can they take charge and break free of them.

Indeed friend...

Intelligent action which is (complete), doesn’t move in accordance to that which is so obviously dangerous. It sees danger and it steers clear of it. It sees the whole of the problem, and in that seeing is its ending. The seeing-understanding is action in and of itself. This is not action influenced by incomplete action, (positive and negative movement of time as the i), or a movement of (thought-the chooser), and then action. That is what we call divided action, incomplete action, or fragmented action.

(Incomplete action), is a reflection of its own incoherence, and will continue to pursist, and only feed that same pattern of dualistic action.

But @Big Guru Balls man...I'm not doing my anything to try to "change, drop or alter [something] to no longer be a prisoner" I'm not mentally doing anything at all. All is happening is me becoming conscience of what a problem really is. But I'm not acting upon any human advice or practical knowledge, it just starts to melt when I experientially know what my issue is by it's very nature...and I don't know how it works...

@ajasatya but why does the thorn begin to cease to exist on its own when I become aware that it is where it is?

Enlightened one's have stated that the why questions of consciousness can't be answered truthfully.

With that said, here's my big steaming pile of BS,loll.

Life/consciousness loves to flourish??

Quote

I have a theory that when you are aware, you lean toward positive labels/beliefs/definitions.

This kind of falls in line with the higher your "vibration",the higher your consciousness, which equals more positive life energy. Consciousness apparently approves of  positivity over negativity. And this has a direct effect on the relative world.:S

Then there's double slit experiment.Where matter can act as both a wave and a particle depending on whether or not it is being observed. And who/what observes?  Consciousness. It changes itself when it observes itself?  Loves attention??o.O

it doesn't. we become aware of the root cause of our sufferings so we can take action.

sometimes action is doing nothing. it happens when we're addicted to doing stuff.

@Aaron p

Buddhism (at least the Theravada branch of it) explains this by showing that there are wholesome and unwholesome states.

Wholesome states are the ones like kindness, generosity, etc. These states stay, even if you are aware of them.

Unwholesome states are the ones like greed, anger, disillusionment, etc. These states disappear when you become aware of them.

One example of mine to prove this point is: Has it ever happened to you that you are upset but are not aware of it, and then a friend asked you to lower your voice, and then you become aware of it for a moment? And in that moment when you are aware of the fact that you are angry, you are not angry, even if it's for a moment.

---

I also have a theory about it. It's the following: the first step towards solving your problem is acknowledging its existence. This is because you can't solve a problem if you don't know about its existence, just like even the fastest car in the world won't be useful to you if you don't know where to go.

The reason why becoming aware of your problem makes it easier to handle is because it's the very first step towards solving it.

Do these explanations make sense?

Awareness is an interesting topic and something I’ve been working on for a while. Its hard to put it in words though. My answer will be mostly in context to addictions and why and how awareness helps deal with addictions better.

Awareness brings to light that which was hidden, that which you could not see before not because it was gone but because you unconsciously chose to NOT see it.

With addictions, any and every addiction pretty much is an escape and helps you NOT see the accumulated pain and hurt since duh, discomfort (which is against the human nature. We are inherently biologically driven towards pleasure and away from pain)

This accumulated hurt and discomfort Is from:

  • Your childhood and life experiences where you were toxically shamed
  • Feeling of unworthiness
  • From boredom and void of life
  • From the fact that you are clueless and so is everyone else.
  • From the fact that effort and emotional labour is the pre requisite for life (which you want to escape)

Addiction of any kind (Netflix, porn, drugs, work, relationships, books, being depressed, working out) removes that awareness of the above mentioned discomfort/pain.

So quite natural don’t you think that bringing that awareness helps you deal with your addiction better? I mean Netflix is not the problem. Netflix is only filling the gap, any good substitute would do. Awareness removes Netflix out of the scene itself and brings to focus that which really is the problem: that you’re not at peace with the pointers mentioned

So to answer your question (in context to addictions), awareness makes it easier to deal with the thing (addiction) cause the thing itself was never the problem. It throws the thing itself out of the scene.

This might seem like coming out of a baby’s mouth but I speak from experience.

@Aaron p Because you are infinite, Truth, and when you ‘shine the infinite light of awareness’ on anything finite, it reveals it’s not physically “real”, and not even ‘there’. Anything focused on and deconstructed disappears in scrutiny of what it truly is (you).

Try to reframe this inquiry as a small rather than ‘big’ question. The simplest most efficient possible scenario is true. Thinking will have you believing there’s an objective “world” “you” are in. Awareness is aware of what actually is.

@Aaron p You're welcome! I believe that the first step towards explaining complex ideas is to explain them in a simple and understandable way.
