Enlightenment is very selfish, because everything real is the self.

Suppose Love is real, and let's assume reality is unreal. Suppose we discover that the building block of reality is real Love, that means our assumption was wrong and reality is actually not unreal. Reality is real, if everything we supposed is true. I'm not going to say if it is or not.

@Charlotte

It can be, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.

Oh I'll never stop @aurum ?

enlightenment is a very selfish act...

Until you are enlightened.

In the west at least.

Some people in the east actually do pursue enlightenment from a non egotsitical perspective, its called the path of devotion or bhakti.

But those people are rare.

Cannot be done in group. It is alone, unique path.

Enlightenment is seeing that the selfish/self absorbed one is illusory...only "apparently" real.

selfish

ˈsɛlfɪʃ/

adjective

(of a person, action, or motive) lacking consideration for other people; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure.

Since when caring about yourself is a "bad" thing? People, I swear. We are raised to put others above us and thats why there is dissatisfaction, I always put myself first but I never considered myself selfish.

@electroBeam Thanks for your input

@Quanty I agree. I'm referring to the motives behind seeking enlightenment.

@Anna1 I understand, but still, until enlightened it's still for 'the self by the self', paradoxical really.

@Ether I also agree.

@Nahm ?♥️

@Charlotte My answer is that It's not selfish for the apparent person to seek its true nature.

Good point. That's why Enlightenment is also called Self-realization. 'You' as Awareness become Self-aware.

I actually don't take Self-realization (recognition of one's true nature) to be the same as enlightenment (full assimilation of that recognition), but I know some do.

I don't think it's possible for something to not be selfish.
