What is the key to happiness?

41 posts in this topic

So I had an existential crisis recently, I seriously considered suicide. But then I was like hey wait a second the reason I'm suicidal is because I have a shit life and no point in life. And whenever I'm socialising the deppression just melts away. So I'm doing that. And I want to be a social worker after sixth form and uni, so I can make a positive impact on the world. Especially with homelessness as this affected me and my mum. However, I'm thinking that why should I care about people and animals and the state of the world if it's all meaningless anyway and really what I'm after is satisfaction from life? It is all perfect no matter what happens as I've seen from my kensho experiences. So do I have to drop empathy and success? I mean fuckign hell.  Also what is the key to being happy? What is it that really satisfies people? i know that enlightened people are really happy so why should I be a social worker if I can be a monk? Isn't my happiness the most important thing in reality? ( my reality which is the only one I have access to? ) So should I drop everything and just be a monk so I can be blissed out all the fucking time lol? Also another thing why do I need to start a family or socialise, eat or do drugs, or socialise or any material pleasure if enlightenment is the ultimate satisfaction? Wouldn't it be wise to put all my efforts into enlightenment?

Life isn't meaningless. It's something you thought life is, and you don't actually know what life really is, you just assume it. It's why It's important to do work on these topics so you really understand it, so don't come up with conclusions straight away :P

You have to find meaning to it. Life doesn't have all these problems you're currently having, it's you that is having the problems and that is reflected on the world, when that reflection isn't in actuality.

It's great that you've finally decided to do something about your life! Use that desire and work on yourself + the Truth. I love how you want to be a social worker and contribute to the world. That is such a meaningful purpose, in which I wish I could try and find! It's important to contribute to the world, that's how you cope with meaning. Also how do you know if the world is meaningless when you haven't tried the social worker yet! :o

The main reason you're not feeling happy is because you feel incomplete. You feel like you need something, but you can't quite catch it, and that something is only achieved by existential.

A nice outlook to boost up happiness is being joyful; Joyful that you are grateful for what you have. Don't expect more, just love for what you have, and how it will grow into you

You should do some reading on human psychology and obviously Leo's videos on emotions because happiness is still an emotion!

Goodluck

You're not human, you're the universe

@Applejuice Take care of yourself. Do the practices. Become finacially and emotionally self reliant. When you are inspired, give to the world.  The peace is within you, not in any building.  If you want to be a monk, be a monk.

The emotional roller coaster you’re on is duality, thinking (overthinking) and identifying  with thoughts. Meditation is the way. None of your thoughts about your future are your future.  They’re just thought. You can let them all go.

The key to happiness is awakening, the end of conceptualizing, and being fully present in the NOW with whatever happens.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

There is no key to happiness, happiness is the key :)

It all starts with a smile, forced or not just smile for no reason.

Eventually it becomes genuine.

@Applejuice The key to happiness is unconditional love and acceptance for what is.

To create and chase the idea of happiness is to create and resist the inevitable consequence of it’s opposite, unhappiness. Perpetual conflict and suffering.

This is the nature of duality, THOUGHT.

Watch out for that duality, it will get ya?

You know- after contemplating happiness deeper just the fact that we are all here to experiance this amazing thing we call life/reality is quite a miracle in itself.

As long as this movement of self “idea” seeks psychological security in the idea of happiness there will be unhappiness.

An idea seeking psychological security in an idea??‍♂️

In this one is only creating inner turmoil and disorder. Stick with the fact of what is, and in that the game opposites will not create the ups and downs that so many get caught up in there life.

To stay with what is and not resist what is, will make for a much more stable ride in life. Don’t seek anything psychologically. As that is where all psychological problems are born.

Indeed,

It is only in this mechanism of thought that we have developed a capacity to depend on psychological time to bring about contentment in daily life.

@Mikael89 You can meditate during a job...Put all your focus on what you are doing. That IS meditation.

Stop making excuses and find solutions. It seems that you dont really want IT...
