Self deception

50 posts in this topic

What are some of the ways in which one can get caught up in delusion, illusion, and self deception in the search for truth??

In seeing the various forms of self deception that may arise we may be able to prevent getting caught up in our own fabrications. I find that this is a very essential question to go into. What do you guys think?

Man of knowledge knows nothing but he thinks he knows. Without knowing, to believe that one knows is to remain forever rooted in ignorance. Knowledge is the enemy although it appears as the friend. You may be able to convince even others that you know, you may be able to strengthen your ego, you may become very famous, you may be known as a great scholar, but deep down there is nothing but darkness.

The ignorant is in a far better situation. At least he has no pretensions, at least he is not deceiving others and himself.

@Prabhaker I vehemently disagree. Ignorance is the worst possible fate for both the individual and humanity at large. Your comment is a sign of ignorance.

The mind is 'mine', rather than I am a product of mind. Or consciousness is 'mine', rather than I am a product of consciousness. Seems pat or basic but is, perhaps, critical

I think he is referring to primal ignorance. :)

Which is beautiful. It is actully the highest form of intelligence. When the the movement of the self/thought/time ceases.....Centerlessness.

Are you sure?

You are saying we “self” are the product of the mind right?

@Colin knew what @Prabhaker said and this is why he disagreed.
Isn't that the funniest thing in the world? :D

I thought you were referring to experiencing without the veil of experience acting as a mirage

I personally think not knowing is so much more fun. When I finally came out and realized that I knew NOTHING about the world other than my small encounters with it, I became a little more relaxed about things in my life. It's still tough, but it's all part of the big adventure :)

@Faceless I think routine is maybe one that comes to my mind. As you get older and have kids, a job, and whatever else piles on to your plate, you can easily get stuck in a routine and, sometimes, it feels almost impossible to deviate from it.

Something went wrong there! I mean that I - the ego - is a product of mind. A product of consciousness. And yet ego likes to speak of 'my mind, my consciousness', as though it is prior to them or owner of them

I agree. After all anything of the mind is never truth.

And yes routine is a B

Routine when it comes to the psychological realm is very destructive. I understand what you are speaking of.

That’s because the self’s very function is to maintain permanence.

To fully and totally understand the self/mind can bring about a cessation of the very movement that feeds the self.

Therefore it won’t be a conceptualization about the self being a product of mind but the self “knowledge, past experience, through memory” actully slows and can end.

This is the final frontier to centerlessness.
