What is Your Favorite Word For God?

82 posts in this topic

I like to call a spade a spade. If you're talking about god, why not say "God"? I can't think of a word more accurate.

The problems is like what @luckieluuke mentions, because the name God has come to mean a lot of silly (and even harmful) things to many people, like the proverbial bearded man in the clouds. It's shocking to realize how many people believe in the literal existence of a God like this. Although I do wonder, if any conception of god would be closer to the truth than any other.

Is 10 any closer to infinity than 1?

How to get to infinity? Divide by zero.

A friend.

Because there's no-one closer to you than God. You are it. That's the most intimate relationship ever.

Religious words like "god" or "lord" I find (for me) I need to restrain myself from thinking about old ideology that I created. I like the word "energy" it is the same energy form that I use when I lift my hand. Life energy, I guess. You really need to paint your words colourfully to convey what is unspeakable

@Nathan Owen is that a physical direction - i mean does that point to somewhere? or is this more an expression of relief, like: „home, finally!“ ?

nothing.

But more like “no-thing”

not the absence of something, but the absence of the artificial difference between subject and object.

God is nothing.

Myself

the ego.

actually that reminds me of a discussion we had last year - if that was a false belief.

just guessing, that a word that is one directional pointing can’t be truth and always points towards the wrong direction.

I like “The supreme being”. Got that from the movie Time Bandits.
