Is it all about sex?

Felt like sharing some thoughts.

What other reason can there possibly be to do life purpose than to get sex? At the bottom of it, what else could be the underlying reason? It's all ego, which is not even true because ego is non-ego. It is what it is, we're just surpressing it - and that's kind of the problem. We want sex, but do we? If it wasn't, selling tomatoes would be perfect. Eckhart Tolle would be fine with that. He said he wanted to do it if he didn't succeed as a writer. But also, after hearing about coral and «being cognition», it's again about meeting you authentic biological needs, it seems. The idea that a biological creature is here to respond to its environment. The funny thing is that the same goes in a different way for red, orange and yellow as well, while blue, green and turquise is again wanting to distance from this survival-, «meeting my needs» -pattern. So one would imagine the same goes after coral. So then what is this game in the end? (I am by no means overly educated in spiral dynamics)

The paradoxical nature of life seems to be that when the ultimate reason we tend to regard porn as unbeneficial, is because it's distracting you from achieving a life where you will get laid. Haha. I mean, what else? Of course you could include fulfillment, passion, etc... but why do we have passion, and why do we strive for fulfillment? Maybe it's because it makes us think that there is another purpose than to survive and reproduce? That it's an evolutionary resonse to us guilting ourselves for the underlying goal of chasing sex, so we trick ourselves into thinking there is another reason, like passion, curiosity and fulfillment. Or religion. Life is still a puzzle though, and it's very complicated. Might as well try to figure it all out, so we try enlightenment. But why chase enlightenment? Hmm... because that's the true path to become happy, but problem is, we don't really want to be happy -- we want sex... so we easily chase enlightenment with that in mind, even when we think we are not, because part of succeeding in life is being right about things, so one may think that pursuing Truth must definitely be right... and special... and fulfilling... and in extremely subtle ways, honorable... that's why it's so hard. And we trick ourselves all the time. But we're already enlightened, and yet we may even know this conceptually, but still suffer.

But why do we want sex so badly?

Maybe its the closest thing we know that resembles a true connection with being.

We're always chasing being, wether we know it or not. Sex, food, enlightenment. Its all the same.

@Edvard Sex is a necessary part of the illusion, one is the illusion of two, and two bring the illusion of another one, and so on. It’s a staple. And what’s not to like? It’s not like we’re spiders that have to eat the partner when we’re done. We got it pretty good here.

I am not doing what i do as my life purpose for sex at all literally i do it mostly because of the satisfaction that comes with it

there is a whole book about it called so good they can't ignore you by cal newport and drive by daniel pink that talk about life purpose and the motivation is not sex at all and not money nothing external in terms of motivation to do it

This may be interesting

It's not all about sex  ,  that's a black and white perspective... There is plenty shades of gray in between  !  Like the need to share deep understanding of the opposite sex  ,  the need for support and the list goes on and on and on..

Although sex is amazing... No wonder why the Egyptians did a lot of Orgies  !

@Ayilton There are exactly 50 shades of grey

Spirituality is any movement towards the Unnamable. Everything is spiritual.

The only true way out Resistance is going into it because any way out of it is staying in it.

The purest life possible is surrendering to the Absolute.

It's not about sex, otherwise you'd drop dead every moment you're not having it. That also means that people who are, say, crippled, paralyzed, etc. who can't physically have it shouldn't be alive.

Sex is part of the equation, but it's not the whole equation. If you focus on it, your life will become imbalanced.. just like if you focus on eating, or drugs, or whatever.

Humans have two main drives which is survival and reproduction (sex), so survival is basically we want to be safe which is why fear is so strong, but because of survival that drives us to make money and because we want to reproduce that drives us to want to have sex. The thing about both of these is that if you dont get either you will think that your life is all about 'trying' to get them. If you like at the maslow hierarchy of needs both these things are rock bottom of basic needs, which is to say that once you have enough of both or once you transcend and give up your need for them then you can begin the path to self-actualisation until then you will always have that feeling of needing them.

Its funny because if you have sex everyday or have enough money to buy whatever you will eventually get bored and realise that it isnt the be all and end all and then you will be forced to self actualise or just distract yourself. So its part of the journey but its definitely not the whole journey and you can test that yourself

Right. It's probably true it comes a lot down to that pyramid. It's a little like, I kind of see it behind the horizon that if I got to the point your talking about, with sex all day and money, it would be boring and it's not the be all end all. But then you self-actualize... for some reason though.... so the question becomes, what is that reason? I think this depends a lot. I mean, at some point one sees that you can do whatever you want with your life, and also what happens happens, what is is, and you just get this drive to do good things and be kind to the world, and you do these things as a natural bi-product of just being. Now, does this have something to do with evolution, is there a certain gene that makes us become like this? There certainly seems to be a psychological evolution leading to more of what we would call kindness and compassion, not to mention "cosmic thinking" as Sadhguru puts it, saying it's very important that intelligence is combinded with having "cosmic identity", or something similar to that. So, like, one thing seems true when I ponder it a little more. Humans have indeed evolved the capacity to think and conceptualize, to reason, and we evolved that for the purposes of survival and reproduction, but now that we have that capacity, it seems we indeed can go away from that process using our thinking to understand that what matters is happiness or being at peace, or at least understand how meaningless our suffering is, and what generates it, if we manage to be honest, which indeed is hard given our evolutionary baggage. And who knows whether there is some divine plan to this or not. In some sense it has to be, we are God in a sense after all, although I can't understand God by thinking with the human mind I put myself in the perspective of, or whatever I did... I don't think I even had a choice in creating the universe. It's getting deeper..

I remember being a child. I enjoyed life immensely... until I hit puberty, began to doubt myself as a man unless I can get sex from women I'm attracted to.

While sex can be an amazing spiritual experience that brings two people together, it can also be a cursing. Lots of abuse and power dynamics going on. While I tried to "transcend" the desire and need for sex, it was impossible.

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with cultural influence, and how we glamorize sex and relationships. But it's something that has been a nagging sense of pain for me, having to deal with my own insecurities and sense of worthiness. But on the other hand, it's been an adventure overcoming that pain and insecurity. I don't want to be the man stuck settling for average sex with okay women.

what is reproduction?

what is sex?

why it is pleasurable?

why it is such a strong instinct?

are biological instincts of the physical body primordial to mind and spirit and love?

what is evolution?

what is body?

what is human?

what are instincts?

Ask right questions OP and you shall see right answers, don't fall into materialist paradigm that can't see beyond chemical reactions of the body.

Yeah its interesting, just to add to it, youre right we have evolved these skills and abilities as humans as a matter of survival and reproduction. If you think about it we're significantly weaker than a lot of animals so our intelligence is our power compared to a lions physicality for example. But we've got to the stage where survival and reproduction are a very high probability to the point where we dont even need to worry about them anymore but we still have these mechanisms in our make up that tell us we need to be worrying about stuff.

Whether theres something else in built in us that makes us look for a higher meaning, i dont know, but there does seem to be something in us that wants to connect with each other, and youll notice as you become more aware of your 'self' you also become more empathetic with others, which could mean that youre learning that youre one with everything. But even on the level of me writing this and you reading it and replying means that we all want to connect on this forum even though theres no real incentive for us to do so, maybe theres a slight ego drive but even then when ego comes in it weakens the connection. So i dunno it seems most things you do in life are to get a connection but the question is, is that because of survival and primal drives or is it something more?

There is so much more to everything than that... It's a basic primal instinct like all other. But nothing extra ordinary. The basic life purpose is obviously survival and existence . Beyond that the purpose would be to create a purpose or meaning but fundamentally the soul seeks joy and peace all the time. That's why all the frustration and the dissonance as a result of the lack of true happiness and peace.

There's more to Life. Sex is just a drive instilled by the need to reproduce and thrive. That's not a purpose, just a need.

  1. Only ONE path is true. Rest is noise
  2. God is beauty, rest is Ugly

Of course it's all about sex. We try to make this world into a better one as much as possible so that we can have better rubbing and better orgasms.
