What Else Should I Give Up?

13 posts in this topic

Systematically giving up all of the ego's favorite toys.

No more bodily pleasure, i am undermining the ego's selfishness. (I am doing no fap, 30 days in/ Goal is 365 days)

Self Control is one of my top 5 strengths, I am a very disciplined person and would like some other advice on what to give up.

Here are some more things I am tackling:

1. Zero Junk Food. No sweets, no salts.

2. No fap

3. No sleeping in (What I currently working on) 5:30am, no ego in the morning is the goal.

4. Being aware and staying alert as a hobby. Restful sitting.

5. No Judgement on others (This one is a struggle)

6. Maintaining equanimity of mind, no matter the external environment)

7. Merging into the Now, without egoic reactions.

Please drop some things I can do to torture myself.

Thx

It depends on what you want.

Is spiritual enlightenment what you want? If so, then you need to give up your entire life. Period.

@Sahil Pandit Have you considered making a list of what you want / want to do, vs what to give up? I’ve found that subtle difference in the thought / perspective aligns inspiration that moves mountains.

@Saumaya Can I ask, when you mentioned what you want to do in your life (go to college, get a job you prefer vs laborious, etc) and at the same time no will, no control, no discipline (“deceptions” I agree) ...does it seem like there is a paradox resolvable there? One which might be beneficial in resolving?

@Nahm Its true that no one has control, but its you who is taking the decisions. It is a paradox yes and it resolves when one grasps it experientially. I am not certain what you exactly asked so I gave the answer of the question I thought you asked. Whipping yourself and discipline means that if one doesn't do these activities, he will automatically fall into lower consciousness activities which is coming from a very low paradigm. One can always choose consciously, and if the flow of life says thy must be done, then it should be done. If one chooses go with the flow of life and still there some things one must stop doing then one can use Leo's "awareness is autocorrective method" until it resolves itself.
