No Fap? Cold showers?

just installed these habits bc of how much attachment i had towards whacking my meat to pixels on the screen. any advice?

No Fap, good experiment to try. I lasted 2 weeks, so not much I can say but any addiction is good to get rid of. 

Cold showers for me personally lead to the opposite of what I was looking for. I took cold showers every single day for maybe 3 months+ without stopping. Started off at 10 seconds a day, then worked my way up to 30 seconds a day. Reached 1 minute a day then back to 30 seconds a day. Maybe it has helped at first but for me it became a habit that I constantly told myself that I hated doing but I did it anyway because I thought it would help. I found myself grumpy half the time at work. So my advice to you is to try it out for yourself, maybe you’ll have a different experience, and learn to love taking those cold showers. Try not to dread it.

The effects of NoFap are life changing, try it and go as long as you can, but don’t obsess over it. Just do it.

Cold showers help with willpower, strength, depression, better skin and hair, more alertness, the list goes on...

Do them both for a month and you won’t want to go back to looking at a screen and jerking off ever again!

Two really tough habits to maintain, you're going to be challenged for sure.

I don't have any hacks to making them easier. You basically just have to plow through on brute force willpower. And if / when you fall off, understand that is part of the process and get back on it asap.

@Vipassana Here's my take on NoFap. Don't think about NoFap in terms of how many days you've gone without doing it. Otherwise you just end up trying to hold off for as long as possible, in the hope that one day you'll not care about it anymore. This might help, but it won't cure your addiction. Generally speaking, resisting something with pure willpower just makes things worse.

Instead you need to make a gradual shift. Make a commitment to gradually wean yourself off PMO over the next 6 months to a year, instead of just trying to do a massive NoFap 'streak' straight off the bat. This means that you won't feel guilty when you slip up, because you will. And it's ok to slip up, really it is.

Consider at first just trying to cut down on watching porn. Then maybe work on removing the daily habit of MO so you're only doing it once in a while. Over time it becomes less and less of a part of your life. You're slowly re-wiring your brain, without having to face loads and loads of resistance. At the same time, you need to grasp what kind of potential damage it's doing to your brain. Read up on it. Otherwise you have no reason to quit, apart from simply following what other people are doing. The short-term pleasure of PMO will nearly always win over the supposed long-term benefits that you hear guys talking about.

Cold showers. There is one rule: don't think - just walk under the shower turn it on full cold and freeze your ass away. The more straight forward and determined you go under the shower the less of a grind it is. That's my experience of showering for 1,5 years cold. But you will have to do the work for yourself. 

Lately I took a warm shower. It's strange and doesn't feel healthy anymore. And still, showering cold is difficult. Never think that it will get easy ;)

Great advice guys! Im about a week in and i am enjoying both of these. I have a lot of inner neurotic energy which i would usually release but now im being mindful of the process and thinking in terms of solitude and perseverance. The little war i am in with myself before my cold shower is the place for most growth for myself. but anyways, im planning to no fap for 90 days then do a 7 day dark room retreat, wanna get in touch with my kundalini energy

Cold showers. 

Take a deep breath and breath out all the air in your lungs while going in to the icey cold. While breathing out you don't feel it, although you can't breathe out forever. 

As someone that lives in -15C, cold showers is a great morning habit because it puts you in heat mode. You don't freeze at all if you go outside.
