I Am 2 Weeks Away From My First 10 Day Vipassana

12 posts in this topic

I am so damn anxious.

Mostly this is due to me doing Nofap, and only being at a 2 week streak. I think porn has been my biggest sticking point for a long time.

Will this retreat change me? Will I just use it as an excuse to "fake it til I make it".

I have been meditating on a chair for awhile now, so I am going into the retreat with the intention to ask for a chair.

I would do a cushion, but I was watching a movie cross legged the other night and my legs fell asleep. My legs falling asleep is even a problem when kayaking. Do you think this is enough justification for using a chair, or should I use a cushion in the lotus position.

@Hafiz

Go ahead and do a chair if that's what feels right for you right now. The most important thing is just being aware.

It sounds like you're doing great, so keep up the good work! Don't worry too much. Have fun.

I got one here in about two weeks as well.  Which one are you going to?

Just ask for a chair if you think you're going to need one, just don't get so comfortable that it makes you sleepy and not alert.

Will it change you?  I mean for 10 days if you put in the full effort the effect is pretty substantial, but ultimately if it changes you is mostly up to whether or not you keep up a consistent practice from their on or if you just revert to old habits.

@Hafiz which one are you gonna attend?

@Heart of Space which one was yours?

And guys can you give me some information about how you found and arrange it? I'm planning to do one this summer, I live in Connecticut, and I'm thinking to attend a closer location.

In some of the comments that I found, it is said that, it's free but you donate or buy some products they have, is it correct?

@username have you done one too?

You're in for an experience ;)

The retreat I did was critical for me. No, it wasn't some magic pill that solved all my problems. But here's what it did do:

- Crucial insights into my life

- Some of the deepest meditations I've ever had

- Supercharged my meditation practice when I came home

This is speculation, but also I believe something energetic happened to me on that retreat as well. That was the first time I started getting these buzzing sensations running up the back of my neck. They haven't gone away since.

It's super low key, no one is going to beat you with sticks if you can't meditate 12 hours a day. Really the only thing you've got to stress about is how you're doing to deal with all the boredom and leg / back pain.

Are you suggesting that we should give thoughts attention when in meditation? I would not recommend that.

Although I would definitely recommend to strictly follow the instructions given in the course.

I used a chair in all my meditations in vipassana retreat. I was quite newbie in meditation at the time (im not pro now either).Maybe somewhere between 100-200 hours before the retreat.

It was only 6 days, but it kind of changed my life. It was about 1,5 year ago and after that i made a decision to meditate everyday. And i have, minus travelling days (maybe 10-15).

Awareness. Alone. Is. Curative. If you don't quit your masturbation permanently, you will suppress it and eventually will come back to bite you in the ass. Chip the layers away from the habit and observe the activity itself without judging it. If you judge it, observe the judgment.

If you just want to keep up the practice, be in a comfortable position. I meditated laying down for months. Doing SDS sits and sitting in uncomfortable positions will build emotional mastery though.

@Ether Dude. Shut up with your silent mind business. Not giving attention to thoughts may cure your social anxiety, but you will miss SO MUCH not being aware of thoughts. Contemplation is a life-changing habit. You suppress filters instead of working through them.

Spirituality is any movement towards the Unnamable. Everything is spiritual.

The only true way out Resistance is going into it because any way out of it is staying in it.

The purest life possible is surrendering to the Absolute.
