I Just Had An Insight About Thinking

8 posts in this topic

The reason most people are doing self-destructive behavior, is because they are not conscious of their own thoughts.

One who is unconscious of his own thoughts, will automatically think about pleasant things, to suppress the unpleasant thoughts. And when one thinks about pleasant things (say, eating fastfood) one will be more likely to act out on his thoughts.

Easy choices, hard life. Hard choices, easy life.

@krazzer suppression is not letting go though. Careful. Next, distinctions between what is a thought, and what is experience? Also, is what you want on the wall?

So people consumed with selfish, resentful, hateful, fearful and cynical thoughts are on a higher consciousness level?

@Serotoninluv  I think he is saying that this unconscious person tries to replace unpleasant thoughts with "pleasant" thoughts, and tricks oneself into acting on those instead because they are "pleasant" (yet equally destructive).  He probably should have gone further and described what the conscious person does in contrast.

A conscious person is conscious of an unpleasant thought, and will not dwell on it nor suppress it.
A conscious person is also conscious of a pleasant thought, and will not act on it.
