Can We Reach Enlightenment Through Masturbation??

85 posts in this topic

I'll say what nobody wants to hear. I believe it's a long shot also. But that depends on what you're masturbating to! Porn would be a challenge I'm only assuming from personal and loved one's experiences.

But I wonder if self-pleasure, coming from a place of self-love and a mind set of experiencing bodily euphoria, can cultivate enlightenment. I personally can't get off on the ideals that get me going in a self-development sense alone. With a partner I find that exploration a tad easier. Maybe that's just my "style" of self-pleasure. That being said, our sexuality is a huge part of our lives and a huge part of our biology. I recommend you try it out for yourself and report back! I'm curious as well :)

Well, when you rub the tip of the penis with your palm you can perhaps experience so much pleasure you'll find it very hard to keep going. There's a technique for you. We can call it "strong determination rubbing" - masturbation on steroids.

So I decided to start NoFap again but first do a last fap for the upcomming night. Tried to surrender as much as possible during the orgasm... Little did I know that I was about to drop into Samadhi as the orgasm was about to end. OHHHHH MY GOOOOOOOOOD! THAT WAS SO FUCKING RETARTED!

Right.  Ok.  Everyone's having a big laugh on this thread (and so have I, reading it)

but there's an important underlying suggestion

Most of these comments seem to come from embarrassment, or escalating a joke that is based on implicit embarressment.

Of what?

There are actually a lot of ligitimate questions raised on this board.  Yet most of the responses feel emotional, not considered, because it's a laugh.  And I agree, it's been very funny to read.  I've laughed out loud several times.  But...

I'm here for a purpose.  There's stuff here which is useful for our purpose, if we can get over our childish responses.  Let's have a go.  Sex and spirituality: what do we think?

@philosogi Perhaps, I don't know.  I've never tried to masturbate myself into higher consciousness.  BUT I feel like some responses here are a bit 'guilty pleasure', which immediately means people are filtering both their experience and their expression of it

Personally, I've read books which have suggested orgasm should be the gate to some enlightening whatever, and all they've done is made me think, worry, and judge more; and experience less.

I think it's important to think of masturbation, orgasm and various sexual moods differently. Kind of like the way that yoga, crossfit, and marathons don't produce the same effects.

Nothing "should" be anything. Sometimes it will be one way, sometimes it will be another way. Depends what you make of it.

I  would say an orgasm qualifies as a Samadhi experience. A union.

Single pointedness of mind is what both transcendent experiences have in common. Sex brings awareness to a point of focus, same as a mantra.

Man had his first realization of samadhi in the experience of sex. But sex is a costly affair, a very costly affair indeed. And it does not last for more than a moment; after a momentary climax, we return again to our original position. For a second, we reach towards a different plane of existence; for a second, we climb towards a peak of immense satisfaction. The momentum is towards the pinnacle, but we have hardly taken a step when we fall back to first base. A wave aspires to reach the sky, but it has hardly risen noticeably when it already starts to fall. We are the same. It is for that ecstasy, for that joy, for that realization, that we accumulate energy from time to time and again start the ascent. We almost touch that subtler plane, that higher realm, but again we fall back to our original position, minus a considerable amount of power and energy. So long as man’s mind remains immersed in this river of sex he will repeatedly rise and fall again.

@Prabhaker

Maybe this single pointedness of mind deserves a lot more exploration. It does seem to be key in the shift of perception beyond self.

When you orgasm, imagine it shooting through your crown chakra, apparently it helps.

You can reach enlightenment by reading a telephone book in theory.

..but we can't compare it with masturbation. If you are alert, sex will be impossible. If a man is alert while making love, the more he is alert, the more it will be difficult. He will not be able to get an erection. The same energy will move into alertness.

Tantra has used this. It has tried in many ways. A beautiful naked woman will be there just as an object for meditation, and the seeker, the meditator, will sit before the nude woman meditating on her body, her form, her proportions, just waiting for the first sensation in his sex center. The moment the sensation is there, be will close his eyes. He will forget the woman. He will close his eyes, and he will become alert of the sensation. Then sex energy is being transformed into alertness.

He is allowed to meditate on the nude woman only up to the point when the sensation is felt. When he has to close his eyes and move to his own sensation and become alert there , the same as is done in sneezing. And why does this flash happen? Because mind is not there. The basic thing is that if the mind is not there and you are alert.

If fapping makes you enlightened then my 14 year old self should have been enlightened a thousand times over

sometimes multiple times a night

I remember hearing Rupert Spira mentioned something about orgasm and how in a brief moment when we reach orgasm we are "out of ego". With the release in that moment we feel such pleasure of just Being. So, maybe it is related...

@Tronds World Agreed. At the height of an orgasm, during sex (I don't think necessarily masturbation), you lose your sense of self, if even for a split-second. I feel like this is why some women struggle to orgasm. They are unable to stop being self-conscious. Proper orgasm requires that you 'die', for a very short while.

I've had a full blown kundalini awakening after fapping. Sexual energy is absolutely no joke. But i'm not enlightened.

Edit: Try becoming aware of the sexual energy in your body and once you're very very horny. You'll see the amazing healing powers it can activate and how it can expand your consiousness.
