How To Finally Get Rid Of Food Addiction ?

10 posts in this topic

Hi everyone,

I researched healthy eating for some years, and experimented a lot. I know very, very well what food makes me healthy. I also know the risks and costs of unhealthy eating. Still I eat unhealthy half of the time.

So why can't I discipline myself to eat healthy:

1. Food addiction. I eat a lot out of boredom. Also food is just really pleasurable to me (both unhealhty and healthy food). Giving up the pleasure of unhealthy food seems like a huge, huge price to pay. How to accept this cost ?
2. Comfort. Unhealthy food is much easier to eat: you just grab it and eat it (like a sandwich or some kind of bar). Except for fruit, nuts, basically all healthy food requires preparation. It easily takes 2-3 hours a day to eat healthy. Eating healthy while traveling is even almost impossible.
3. Calories. I need about 2700 calories a day given my lifestyle. It's really difficult to reach that amount the healthy way. I don't feel like becoming underweight again.
4. Money. I can spent about 250-300 dollars a month on food. This makes eating healthy more difficult, especially while being on the road.

How can I FINALLY get rid of my unhealthy food addiction and habits ? Knowledge doesn't suffice. I think the solution may lie in reprogramming my subconscious and/or just eating very little and accepting becoming scrawny.

I am desperate for a solution. Even though I am a slim and healthy young man right now, I am still on route to cardiovasculair problems and cancer in the long run.

In your young life you have been trained to be normal and eat unhealthy food. The food industry needs you, and yours, to keep eating its addictive junk so they can keep getting more wealthy - and yes eventually make money off your deteriorating health in the hospital. How can you escape this situation? Where will you get this good food you want to eat - how will you make it more tempting than the addictive industrial diet? You are in the samp pickle as everyone - and nobody can give you the iniciative and skills to get out of it because they dont have them either - all most can do is try to be nice and offer you some pizza and a cigarette. So lets get started if you really want to know. #1 its going to take time - be diligent, focused and patient and you may achieve great things in 3 years - enjoy the process - youll be fine. Step 1 wildcrafting!! All the free food you want and 10 times more healthy than grocery store food - Just go out and get it!!! Thats right get a BOOK learn to identify food plants and one by one incorporate them into your salads - this is where health comes from just ask any wild animal. As well youll be getting fresh air, exercise and relaxing time in nature -maybe even with a few friends or a girl. Once you get out there you may find a wealth of mushrooms, fruits, teas, greens, nuts, etc. Iam serious! I eat half wild crafted food in my diet! I go out to the forest and come home with a as much as I can carry in a giant backpack every time I go and my family loves eating it too. There are groups of people doing this and classes -just check youtube for some hints and get off that couch. #2 Go to the hardware store and buy 3 packs of seeds, put then in dirt, preferably outside, 5 cm apart and add water. Just do it! If you dont kill these plants they will turn into food! Cherish them and you, my friend, will return to the realm of human evolution - yes we once knew that seeds can become healthy food. Plants are very good friends bags of chips are not. Now you see Iam not asking you to do anything we havnt been doing for 1000s of years but it will feel really extreme for you to get started - completely weird to impossible, but this is the only cure for being warped Iam afraid to say. But if you succeed in these first two of many options you will be able to eat the ocasional twinky without ill effects - hopefully you wont even want one by then though and you can start with the next step - #3

Read Never binge again. Seriously. It’s free on amazon. You don’t have to be a binge eater to benefit from it. What it will do for you if you implement is to allow you to eat 100% of the time like you know is best for you. You won’t need willpower and you there will be no situations where you will fail. It might take some time to fully get it to work but if you are open minded it’s the best thing I have found. I struggled for five years to get ripped with a lot of binge eating and struggle. With this book I got ripped in five months.

I notice when i take care of my health and have a more active lifestyle which results in myself being in a better mood overall i am more drawn to healthier and more natural foods as well. On the other hand if i am in a lower mood i am hungry more and notice my mind steering more towards the junk. I stop myself but i still notice the patterns. Kinda like when i would get high, after the high wears off you wanna eat for instance to "fill the void" and gain that little reward or release of dopamine (if you will) to try sustain the high but it does not work as you are emotionally eating or so it seems.

I noticed this when i take LSD or when in love and joy, you hardly ever become hungry and if you do want to eat it becomes more of an an art of pleasure and enjoyment and i always seem to want light healthy stuff like fruit where when my vibe is lower i steer to more heavier stuff and junk.

Checkout this video, it helped me understand this better.

If it sounds like something you’d be interested in, try eating extremely low carb and high fat (a ketogenic diet).

It kills your appetite (not in a bad way) because your body gets really really efficient at burning its own stored fat (as opposed to depending on regular incoming glycogen). You can go hours and hours without eating, skip meals and feel fine.

Makes you lose fat nearly effortlessly, the only effort being that you have to not eat some of the foods you might want to (keepIng them out of the house helps). But after two or so weeks, you might begin to prefer the euphoric feeling it provides over the quick high of sweets.

“Curiosity killed the cat.”

@Pristinemn after much trial an error, I've found that the only thing which works for me in regards to addiction is cold turkey. Your ego might scream and cry, but if your awareness is high enough you'll see through the illusion and start to be at ease with whatever you feel.

Hark ye yet again — the little lower layer. All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event — in the living act, the undoubted deed — there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask! How can the prisoner reach outside except by thrusting through the wall? To me, the white whale is that wall, shoved near to me. Sometimes I think there's naught beyond. But 'tis enough.

Eating healthy is a skill.  You have to know how to prepare good food, know where to find it, and know how to do it in an economical way.

If it tastes like shit, you won't last.  So find out what's good.

I dont know how is it in your countries, but where I live, eating in the way I think is healthy takes soooo much time, I mean too much, you have to prepare the food for at least an hour and you have to prepare tons of it. How do you guys overcome this problem?
