How Do You Raise Your Consciousness?

14 posts in this topic

The only way I know of expanding my awareness/consciousness is by meditating..What can I do other else than meditating or increase the amount of time that I am meditating?

From what I've found, another way to do this is by being conscious as much as you can throughout the day..But this sounds a bit too..vague.Are there techniques designed to raise one's consciousness?

I admit that I am pretty new to the subject...I would like some theory/explanations on it, BUT DON'T BE VAGUE.  And again,I am stressing that you give me practical advice on how to actually do that.

@Ryan_047 Questioning and paying attention to your inner world (actions, emotions, purposes, wants, values). Questioning beleifs, paradigms.

Learning about topics relevant to whatever you're doing, don't be ignorant or get complacent about improving how you're doing something.

Recognising reality in as accurate way as you can, keep in mind paradoxes, the big and small pictures of what you're contemplating or doing. Consider your environment (that reminds me of the spiral dynamics model stages). Take responsibility and recognise where something is or isn't working, do something about it in as productive way you can. Own up to your mistakes, don't be afraid to be wrong.

If you have avoidance behaviours or pain, try not running away from it but finding the root cause and resolving those issues

Looking at any mechanical behaviour or thinking, seeing where it could be changed or improved

I think a lot of the actualization topics all relate to it, anything that is about seeing things more accurately and not walking through life blindfolded

Focus your attention on your breath as much as you can throughout the day. Feel the air enter your nose. Focus on the sensations. Feel your stomach expand with each breath in.

This will automatically make you aware/conscious of yourself and your surroundings for a short time period. Just a few seconds is already good. With practice, you'll have more of these moments of relaxation and hightened awareness.

Cool thing is, its so simple. You can practise this everywhere. When you're on your bike, when you're taking a shower, when you're having breakfast or when you're flying to Jupiter.

Have fun!

You literally cannot raise or expand awareness/consciousness- it is ever expanded always. What you want to actually do is reduce and disidentify with the activity of mind, as this is what obscures awareness. This may sound like nitpicking, but it's well worth being able to articulate yourself proficiently on these matters.

"Being conscious" requires no effort, it is a relaxing of a previous effort. But if you feel like you need to make an effort to get through your spirtual practices, then by all means make the effort.

Listen to reputable "teachers" of non-duality on a daily basis.

A few "techniques" that increased my consciousness by orders of magnitude - though I fell back a few days ago:

1) Being authentic: This is a huge one. I experimented with it and saw alot of correlation between my level of authenticity and my level of consciousness. My theory is that when your energy isn't going into controlling your emotions in a neurotic manner then it will be free to be just aware.

2) Writing a daily reflection journal: This will make you aware of your "right" and/or "wrong" repeating or if you did something that led to an insight. Write down x number of things every day that help and hinder our personal development. If you become conscious of them, they will eventually fix themselves (Awareness Alone Is Curative.)

3) New experiences: If you have new experiences, your mind will automatically be more conscious and it will make you more aware after it has happened.

4) Studying aspects of life: If you can make fine distinctions between things (especially psychology and personal development concepts), you will notice these things and that will increase your awareness. Noticed this when I

5) Clear your information intake: This was the reason why I went back to lower levels of consciousness. In lower consciousness states you will crave low consciousness information (if you become aware of this, the distinction between high and low consciousness material will be obvious to you.)

Made things more clear.

Spirituality is any movement towards the Unnamable. Everything is spiritual.

The only true way out Resistance is going into it because any way out of it is staying in it.

The purest life possible is surrendering to the Absolute.

I learned more from four hours of my first psychedelic trip than 25 years of meditation.

It was the first thing that killed my ego and brought me to a nondual experience.

And with that glimpse a crack has been opened and I've had a few mind expanding experiences while sober. Each has involved stepping outside of my habitual comfort zone.

For example, I am learning my first foreign language (Spanish), I've entered places in my brain beyond my habitual / familiar use of English. Last summer I lived immerse in South America for two months. I spent weeks with native tribes and locals - far from tourist routes. The environment was outside my comfort zone. They spoke no English and we could only partially communicate with my intermediate level Spanish. I went stretches of days/weeks without seeing anyone that looked like me or had had similar experiences or beliefs as me. There was no news input. My habitual thoughts and beliefs were no longer in the echo chamber. After a period of time, my story and my beliefs no longer seemed real. I thought "who the hell am I"? And I really didn't know. When I returned to the States I felt like a stranger in my hometown, in my own house. I walked into my workplace and felt like an imposter.

And “vague” answers used to annoy me. I’d get frustrated in buddhist discussion as they spoke in vague, esoteric riddles. And some would smile and nod as if it made sense! Why wouldn’t the just explain it in plain English?! ??. . . Now, I finally know why. . .

There is no quick fix.  You need to develop a Mastery mindset with Personal Development.  You're not gonna get an easy answer.  You need to chunk this process down into a daily routine.  I would watch all of Leo's videos first.  You need a theoretical background to draw from in this work.  You gotta start from where you are and pay your dues to get growth.  It takes a lot of work.  More than most people think.  And you gotta be your own guru to do it.  To do that effectively, you need lots of information.  That's what Leo's videos give you.  Any easy answer only works for someone who already has a deep shore of reference to understand it.   There's no quick way to build a deep shore of reference either.  It takes years, a lifetime.  You need to figure out where you are in this process, get to work, and do work on a daily basis.  What work is appropriate for you at this time depends on where you actually sit in this process.
