The Depression Epidemic: Only In America Or Can You Others Relate As Well?

44 posts in this topic

@Revolutionary Think

According to the World Health Organization, India is one of the most depressed countries in the world with a whopping 36% of Indians likely to suffer from major depression at some point in their lives. Majority of Indians are most materialistic people in the world, westerners earn money to live a better life, Indians earn money only for saving.

Indians have a great desire to possess. You may not have anything, and still you will be a materialist if the desire to possess is there. You may possess only a small hut or only a begging bowl, but that is enough for your whole possessiveness to be focused on. And you will be a materialist, not a spiritualist. Possessiveness and sexual repression has made life very miserable, it has resulted in increasing cases of depression in India.

I'm thinking more along the lines of what was said in the article. Like working a job that you've checked out on and have no desire to do. I could only imagine it's much worse over there though.

What else can you expect from a spiritually bankrupt society?

Trump won because he perfectly represents the level of consciousness of the average American.

The ego amusement park isn't so amusing in the end. It's only going to get worse. Wait till we have mainstream VR in 10 years.

Who is it that said the human condition is a mental illness? If they didn't, they should have.

@Leo Gura It's goes much deeper than being spiritually bankrupt it's full on stupidity. How can we have a public education system that is stupid enough not to teach young people about their passion, how to make money, and how money works. That being said how could the citizens be stupid enough not to question such a stupid system. I guess it just goes full circle.

Even for the most anti-spiritual super practical person in the world. The current system of education we have isn't even practical and nobody is up in arms about it. Our society is a brainless dump... I just needed to put that out there.

The question is though my life purpose is to bring this to the attention of the public and somehow monetize my efforts as well. Will your life purpose course help me with that?

And there you have the answer for why the system doesn't work the way you want. ;) Indeed, it does go full-circle. The enemy you seek to string up will turn out to be none other than yourself.

The LP course is not limited to any one kind of career.

Man I have been so excited for VR since day one but I just realized how insanely accelerated the dystopian aspects of humanity are going to become.

Or maybe its because people aren't allowed to express their true feelings about things, even if it is divisive, because the 'enlightened' left side of politics believes that demonizing and calling everyone who has a different opinion as them, as racist, and consequently forcing people to repress their true desires is somehow the best way to deal with the situation.

I would much rather trump be in the white house, than Hillary, at least now the American population can stop hiding their true feelings about things, and let it out, where everyone can see it.

Things have to get ugly before they can get better. Hillary. Obama, and the entire left wing side of politics, were basically a massive dam, trying to hold in the water of racism/fear of terrorism, by neurotically not allowing people to be authentic, and demonizing them like little children who hear an opinion that they didn't like. Thank god Trump is in, now the American people are allowed to show their true colours.

Because lets face it, if Trump didnt get in now, he would have gotten in 5 years down the track.

@Arman There are some real benefits to VR, particularly in making people more empathetic, making people healthy, and connecting people from around the world.

@electroBeam You're not going to solve a complex system's problem by sending a bull into a china shop. That leads to disaster.

@Leo Gura OK so if I did it out of the kindness of my heart then it wouldn't go full circle? I guess I'll make a living doing 3D printing that I'm learning in that case.

Also ironically the circle gets fuller because you're charging for your life purpose course. So you're your own enemy too. I'd tell you to put your money where your mouth is but, in this case I guess put your money where your mouth isn't then it's not monetized. ;)

idk, a massive, bulky comet smashing into the earth at 1000000 miles and hour produced amazing men like Socrates, Gandhi, an amazing mathematics system, and actualized.org

People generally are most happy when they see their relative wealth go up. That is their wealth compared to other people.

If you live in a village where everyone lives in a hut has one goat, but you live in a hut and you have a goat, a pig, a cow, and a few chickens running around you will feel pretty good about yourself.

The actual wealth of people in the US is much higher. But if you don't have much more then your neighbors and you see no perspective to change that then that makes people unhappy. And that drives them crazy.

Half the problems on this forum are really luxuary problems. Those problems only manifest because all people's basic needs in the western world are already met.

Then there is a need to full fill the higher needs next. But those can be more abstract and require a higher level of cognitive thinking. As a result when people can't figure it out their psychology gets all messed up.

That's my take on it.

@Revolutionary Think I believe Leo's point is not that you can't share your opinion and get paid for it. In America, pundits are a dime a dozen. We don't even care about facts anymore. So, opine away!

It seems he is pointing out that individuals pushing their monetized agenda have given us the system you hate. It has unfolded this way based on that drive.

Is everyone really stupid, with you at the upper end of the intelligence bell curve of the entire country, or is something more complex going on?

My education did not teach me about money, they were very "social" degrees. It did show me that anytime I was angry and judgemental, running around feeling like the answer was so simple - others were just too stupid or evil to get it - I actually just didn't get how the system works.

To @electroBeam's point about our current antichrist president, widescale adaptation comes from intense environmental pressure, not a messenger from the collective "higher self."

That is synonymous. Levels of consciousness differ in the way you express your feelings and emotions.
It can go something like this:
Level 1: Repression
Level 2: Unnecessarily vulgar expression
Level 3: Less damaging expression (perhaps a little passive aggressive)
Level 4: Controlled, inner expression and release
Level 5: Acceptance and integration of all emotions, where expression has merged with nonexpression, and it becomes one beautiful flowing experience
Level 6: Bliss

(I Just made that up, please don´t teach this kids at school its not very well thought out =D)

@Martin123 it is, but the socialist/left wing reaction to people being racist is synonymous to religious nuns slapping little kids for eating a candy bar, instead of loving them, and being kind to them, and showing them how the divisiveness is causing havoc in their lives.

We are all ok with showing absolute kindness, and standing in unity whenever a terrorist attack happens, because we are all loving people, but whenever we encounter a conservative, we attack more aggressively than a bulldog does with a stranger. Infact, a loving kind left wing socialist, was reported in the news as to have tried to attempt to assassinate Donald trump. What's concerning is that, the individuals who identify with left wing politics largely aren't authentically loving and kind of the inside, they are charlatans, and that sort of deception is ruining our response to people who genuinely do believe that the pigment of one's skin makes someone different.

Its similar to on here, how people pretend that the world is one, and they pretend that they know the world is one, when they actually don't.

@eskwire

An asshole doesn't choose to be an asshole. Its his brain chemistry. And you're not going to make him a better person by telling him to keep his racist intentions to himself, otherwise we will embarrass you, you're going to do it by convincing him that hes causing harm to himself. Because if you embarress him, he's still going to be racist, but sneakily.
