Cubital tunnel syndrome

6 posts in this topic

Has anyone here dealt with this before? If so, what was your healing process like?

I noticed faint symptoms in my hand over a month ago while drawing or writing. I pushed my hand too hard one day and it has felt off since then, even though since then I've limit drawing to an hour a day. I went to a hand Dr last week and he told me I likely have cubital tunnel. Ive been doing the hand exercises since then + sleeping with my arm extended, but the last couple day my fingers up to my elbow feels tense, and I wake up with my fingers feeling very stiff (if I slowly close down on my hand, the two outer fingers click/snap into my palm as if the tendons are tight/short or something)

I have actually ... believe it or not. I spent 30 hours on a treadmill clicking through a video game and I got it. I wasn't concerned though as I had previously developed similar symptoms after thousands of hours of sitting meditation in my legs. The parasthesia and weakness subsided after about 2-3 months and I got full functionality and fine motor control of my hand back. Nervous tissue takes a while to heal. Everything will be fine, just keep doing life and don't put too much pressure on it. Maybe try your other hand for a while (:

Thats reassuring to hear. I thought I'd ask here because I realized after scouring reddit that I was probably reading worst case scenarios, not averages.

Huh?

Did I fucking stutter?

Certainly, after the first few hundred hours of strong determination sitting where I was doing 3-6 hours a day for nearly a year in my early 20s.
This was after enduring Leo's "you're a bitch ass unenlightened pussy if you can't SDS for 4 hours straight" teaching style as a youngster.

I switched from a half lotus position to using a seiza bench and found it to be much healthier.
Although I took that to an extreme too, when I did 20+ hour sds sits for a creative concept over the course of a week,
including the failed attempts of like 15 hours, 13 hours, 18 hours, etc that aren't included here...

I didn't have sensation in my anterior tibialis muscles for about 3 months after that.
The shit I've done for art 🙃 ... currently balancing out my emotional and psychological development to being a more normal human.

On an unrelated note, I've recently learned that headaches and migranes are often a side effect of built up neck tension from poor posture. @Myioko Consider consulting a physiotherapist (also known as a physical therapist in the US) to relieve any neck tension you may have and to teach you healthy sitting posture...

@MuadDib I'm glad that you answered my detailed question accordingly. But seriously, my curiosity has been quenched.
